Paramount Plus not working on Xfinity: 9 fixes
#1: Check if your Xfinity device is compatible
Before running Paramount Plus on your Xfinity device….
You need to make sure that the app is compatible with your Xfinity device first.
To do this, you need to:
- Access your Xfinity account on a web browser.
- After signing in, click the Devices tab.
- In the following menu, you can view the model number of your device.
Moreover, Paramount Plus is compatible with the following Xfinity Flex or X1 models:
- Xi6.
- Xi5.
- XiOne.
- XG1v4.
- XG1v3.
- XG2v2-P.
- XClass TV.
If your device isn’t on this list and you want to use Paramount Plus, it’s time for an upgrade.
You can visit Xfinity’s website for great deals on their TV boxes.
And here’s how you can upgrade your equipment.
- Head https://login.xfinity.com/.
- Log in to your Xfinity account.
- Click the Get Start button.
- Review the What You Have and What You’ll Get fields to see if the details are correct.
- Click Continue.
- Check your Shipping Details and proceed with the order.
After that, expect your new Xfinity equipment to be delivered in 3-5 business days. Sometimes even earlier.
#2: Check your internet
Paramount Plus requires a stable internet connection for the best streaming experience.
That’s why one of the most important factors you need to look into is internet speed.
You need only 4mbps to run Paramount Plus well. If you want to stream your shows on a higher resolution, go for at least 25mbps.
Note: If you want to check your internet speed, open Fast or Speedtest on your desktop or mobile browser.
Moreover, stability also matters aside from speed. Modern devices that connect to Wi-Fi will detect 5GHz networks first.
This type of network band delivers fast connection speeds. But, it works better on short distances.
And if your router is far from your Xfinity device, it’s better to use 2.4GHZ instead. This delivers consistent speeds even from a distance.
Now, the easiest way to determine if a network is 2.4GHz is to see if its default name has a 2 at the end. To connect your Xfinity device to a 2.4GHz network, do this:
- Open your Xfinity’s Settings menu.
- Access the Network/Connectivity menu.
- Find your network that has “2” at the end.
#3: Restart your router
“I have a high speed data plan. Why am I getting low results on the speed test?”
Don’t panic as this is a common issue.
Instead, try this quick method…
You can fix internal router issues by simply starting a power cycle. To do this, you need to:
- Turn off your router and unplug it.
- Hold the power button down for 3-5 seconds.
- Plug it back in and restart the router.
After doing this, don’t forget to do a speed test for any improvements.
If you’re still not getting the speed that your data plan calls for, contact your service provider ASAP. This could be an issue with your data plan or the router itself.
#4: Restart your Xfinity device
Aside from your router, it’s a good idea to restart your Xfinity device as well.
This can also solve performance issues and bugs you have.
To restart your Xfinity device, you should:
- Check if all your cables are tightly secured.
- Look for the Power button on the front of the TV box.
- Press and hold it down for 10 seconds.
- Wait for the Xfinity device to restart.
Reminder: It’s recommended to close all apps on your Xfinity device before turning it off. This can prevent problems that could arise from the software.

#5: Update your Xfinity device
Xfinity devices get updates regularly. These help remove bugs and glitches. Additionally, it can let your Xfinity device run streaming apps in better quality.
Now, the TV box does update automatically as long as it’s connected to the internet.
If it doesn’t automatically update, your Xfinity device will reveal a prompt that allows you to install the latest firmware versions of your device.
Reminder: Make sure that your Xfinity device stays connected to the internet during the update. Avoid having the connection suddenly shut off as well.
#6: Bring your router closer to your Xfinity device
Distance plays a huge role in internet speeds.
That said, your Xfinity device should not be less than 20 feet away from your router. If you follow this, you’re in for the maximum speed.
But if you can’t move either of the two together, get a Wi-Fi extender. This can help extend the reach of your wireless network by over 50 feet.
Note: Wi-Fi extenders also increase the number of devices that can connect to your network.
#7: Connect your Xfinity device via Ethernet cable
Use an ethernet cable to connect your Xfinity device to your router. This maximizes the connection speed you’re getting out of the latter.
Additionally, you won’t have to deal with Wi-Fi problems such as distance issues and physical obstructions.
Another advantage to this is that this disconnects your Xfinity from the Wi-Fi network. With that, it won’t take up bandwidth from the wireless network.
And so, your other devices connected to the Wi-Fi network will get improved speeds too.
Note: Only the Xfinity xi5 and xi6 have an Ethernet port for now.
#8: Manage your Paramount Plus account
As you already know, Paramount Plus is a subscription-based streaming service. That said, you won’t be able to access your favorite shows while your subscription is expired.
Note that the streaming platform will notify you of an upcoming account expiration. They do so via email or through your Xfinity account.
As long as there are sufficient funds on your connected payment method, the subscription will renew immediately.
