Why is Paramount Plus not working on my Samsung TV?
Paramount Plus isn’t working on your Samsung TV because of network issues. You may try to reset your modem and router to see if this fixes your internet. Another cause is that there’s a glitch in the Paramount Plus app. A simple fix would be to sign out and log in with a different profile.
Paramount Plus not working on Samsung TV: 9 fixes
#1: Check if Paramount Plus is down
Paramount Plus was released in the US in March 2021. Prior to the launch, it existed as CBS All Access from 2014.
So it’s a relatively new player in the ever-expanding streaming service competition.
As such, it’s more likely to experience technical issues. At least when compared to other established companies like Netflix and Hulu.
That’s why if Paramount Plus isn’t working on your Samsung TV…
The first thing you need to check is if it’s down.
Like Netflix, Paramount Plus has a dedicated page on its website for that. You can easily check if there’s a service outage or interruption.
Once you’ve confirmed it’s down…
All you need to do is wait. The great thing about Paramount Plus is they have really good tech support and engineers. Working around the clock.
The outage shouldn’t take long. It won’t be long before you’re back to enjoying your favorite movie on the app.
#2: Check if you’re having network connection issues
As with all streaming devices, you’d need stable internet for Paramount Plus.
The app actually requires at least 4 Mbps to run smoothly.
For comparison, Netflix only requires 1 Mbps for Standard Definition (SD).
And what’s even worse?
Paramount Plus on Smart TVs only streams in High Definition (HD). There’s no option yet to downgrade to SD.
So you’ll definitely experience buffering.
You may not even be able to play movies at all if your internet speed is below Paramount Plus’ requirement.
“Well, that’s disappointing!”
Wait, there’s still an easy solution you can do.
Namely, a power cycle on your modem and router.
To power cycle is just to reset or reboot your device.
Here’s a quick way to do it:
- Unplug your modem and router from the outlet.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug both the modem and router back in.
Now, wait until all the lights are steady in your modem and router. The Internet light indicator, in particular, should be green and steady.
Then try to relaunch the Parmount Plus app.
#3: Perform a power cycle on your Samsung TV
It’s also possible that both the Paramount Plus app and your internet are fine.
And the issue is with your Samsung TV.
Like any device, Samsung TVs are not immune to occasional glitches.
So try to close the Paramount Plus app first. And try to launch other apps on your TV.
If you’re still having issues, then a power cycle on your TV may be in order.
There are…
A couple of ways to power cycle a Samsung TV
By using the remote.
All you have to do is press and hold the power button on your Samsung remote. The TV should then turn off and turn back on.
By unplugging from the outlet.
Here’s how you can do it:
- While the TV is on, unplug it from the outlet.
- Press the and hold the TV’s power button for about 15 seconds. This is to drain its power completely.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the TV back into the outlet.
Once the TV’s back on, launch the Paramount Plus app.
#4: Create another Paramount Plus profile
Here’s a really quick solution that’s been proven effective according to many Samsung users.
Try to create another profile. Then use that instead of your main one.
With Paramount Plus, users are allowed to create up to 6 profiles.
Here’s how you can do it on your Samsung TV:
- Go to Paramount Plus’ home page.
- Click your profile photo found on the bottom-left of your screen.
- Select Add Profile.
- Type in your preferred Profile Name.
- Click Save Profile.
You’ll then see a “Who’s Watching” page with all of your profiles. Select the newly-created one. Then try to play a video. For many users, this did the trick.
If you’re still having problems, sign out of your Paramount Plus account. Then sign back in. And use the profile you just added.
#5: Install available updates for the Paramount Plus app
Paramount Plus is only a little over 1 year old. And since it’s not yet that stable, glitches do happen from time to time.
That’s why Paramount Plus occasionally sends updates. To fix whatever’s causing those malfunctions.
Now with Samsung TV, you can set an auto-update for your apps. And it’s best to choose this option for all of your installed apps. Including Paramount Plus.
This is how you can do it:
- Press the Home button on your remote and go to Apps.
- Click the Settings icon.
- Select the Auto Update option and turn it on. You should see a blue button indicating it’s now on.

Consider this a last resort, though. Because resetting it would wipe out your account details. As well as your saved settings. Basically a factory reset.
However, your downloaded apps won’t be deleted. But they’ll be reset as well. So you’ll have to log back in on all of them.
These are the steps to do it:
- Click the Home button on your remote and Go to Settings.
- Go to Support.
- Click Device Care.
- Select the Self Diagnosis option.
- Click Reset Smart Hub.
- Enter your 4-digit PIN. If you never set one, enter 0000.
