Why is Paramount Plus not working on my Roku?

Paramount Plus isn’t working on your Roku because it wasn’t installed properly. A fix for that would be to uninstall the app. Followed by restarting your Roku. And then reinstalling it. In addition, you may also be having a network connection issue. You can restart your modem and router to fix that.

Paramount Plus not working on Roku: 7 fixes

#1: Check if Paramount Plus is down

Paramount Plus has only been around for a little over a year.

They currently have around 40 million subscribers. About a fifth of Netflix’s.

And as a relatively new streaming service, they’re more prone to outages than others.

So if you can’t get Paramount Plus to work on your Roku player…

Check if the issue is on Paramount Plus’ end.

The easiest way to do that is by going to their website. Paramount Plus has a dedicated page indicating if they’re down.

You may also try to watch it from another device. Try to open Paramount Plus through a web browser on your phone or laptop.

If you’re also not able to watch from there…

Then there really is an outage or service interruption.

The best thing you could do is wait. Paramount Plus has engineers that are constantly working to fix various issues.

Paramount Plus’ service interruptions usually don’t take long. So simply check back after a while.

#2: Check if it’s a network connection issue

Check If It's A Network Connection Issue

It’s also possible that you’re having network connection issues. That’s why you couldn’t play Paramount Plus on your Roku device.

As of this time, Paramount Plus streams only in High Definition (HD). Which means they require a higher download speed than Netflix and others.

According to them, you need a download speed of at least 4 Mbps to stream without any hitch.

A quick way to check your internet speed is through the following:

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Type in “speed test”.
  3. You’ll see a Run Speed Test button. Click that to know your internet speed.

Now if you’re really having network problems…

You may do a power cycle on your modem and router.

It’s a simple process of resetting your device. But it’s effective in solving a lot of issues.

Here’s a quick way to do it:

  1. Unplug your modem and router from the outlet.
  2. Wait for about 30 seconds.
  3. Plug your modem and router back in.

Once they’ve fully rebooted, try to play Paramount Plus again on your Roku.

Check if your Roku player is connected to the internet

Now it’s also possible that your internet is fine. But your Roku player somehow got disconnected.

Here’s an easy way to…

Check your Roku’s connection status:
  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote and go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to Network and click it.
  3. Select Check Connection.

You’ll see a status indicating that your Roku is either connected or disconnected.

If you’re disconnected from the internet…

Here’s how to reconnect:
  1. Press Home on your remote and click Settings.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Click Set Up Connection.
  4. Choose Wireless for WiFi. Or Wired if you’re going to use an ethernet cable.
  5. If you choose Wireless, select a network from the list. You may click “Scan again to see all networks” if you couldn’t find your home network.
  6. You’ll be asked to enter your network’s password.
  7. Click Connect.

Note: Only Roku Ultra and Roku Ultra LT can connect to the internet directly via an ethernet cable. Roku Streaming Sticks, on the other hand, can only connect via WiFi.

For all other Roku players, you may use an ethernet adapter

#3: Restart your Roku player

Roku may be one of the most established brands in the streaming device market. But even they aren’t immune to the occasional glitches.

It’s possible that your Paramount Plus app is fine. But your Roku player’s having a temporary malfunction.

An easy solution would be to…

Restart your Roku player.

The fastest way to do it is via the following:

  1. Unplug your Roku player from the power outlet.
  2. Unplug it from your TV.
  3. Wait for about 30 seconds.
  4. Plug your Roku device back into the TV.
  5. Plug it into the power outlet.

An alternative way to do it is…

Through the settings.

Here are the steps:

  1. Hit the Home button on your remote and select Settings.
  2. Click System.
  3. Look for either the Power option or System Restart and click it.

Another third way to restart your Roku player is…

Via the remote.

You may follow these steps:

  1. Press the Home button exactly 5 times.
  2. Click the Up button
  3. Click the Rewind button twice.
  4. Click the Fast Forward button also 2 times.

Your Roku player should restart automatically. After which, you may try to relaunch the Paramount Plus app.

#4: Delete the Paramount Plus app then reinstall it

Another common reason why Paramount Plus isn’t working on Roku…

The app simply wasn’t installed properly.

There may have been internet interruptions during installation. Or a glitch occurred in either the Roku or the Paramount Plus app while installing.

Whatever the case may be, simply deleting and reinstalling the app should do the trick.

Here’s how to delete Paramount Plus from Roku TV:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Highlight the Paramount Plus app from the channels.
  3. Click the Star Key on your remote. This should pull up the Options menu.
  4. Select Remove Channel.
  5. Confirm the removal by clicking OK.

Now after deleting the app, don’t go rushing to install it just yet.

It’s best to restart your Roku player first before reinstalling the app. You may refer to our Fix #3 and choose any of the restarting methods provided.

Once your Roku player has restarted, you may go ahead and…

Reinstall Paramount Plus:

  1. On your Roku remote, press the Home button.
  2. Navigate to Streaming Channels to launch the Channel Store.
  3. Click Search Channels and type in Paramount Plus.
  4. Click Add Channel.
  5. Enter your Roku PIN if you have one.

The installation process should then begin. You’ll be asked once again to log in to your Paramount Plus account upon launching.

#5: Update your Roku player’s firmware

All Roku streaming players work best when they have the latest firmware installed.

By default, updates should happen automatically. If your Roku is left on at all times, it’ll check for updates every 24 to 36 hours.

However, if you haven’t used it for a while, it’s best to manually check. It’s also good practice to always check for updates whenever you install new channels.

Perhaps the reason Paramount Plus isn’t working is that your Roku has outdated software.

Here’s how you can…

Manually check and install software updates:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Navigate to Settings and click it.
  3. Click System.
  4. Select System Update.
  5. Click Check Now. You’ll then be able to see if there are updates available.

Your Roku player will then automatically download and install the updates. Expect Roku to reboot multiple times during the process.

#6: Factory reset your Roku streaming device

This should be one of your last options. But if your Roku is really malfunctioning, then you may consider doing a factory reset.

But before you do that, bear in mind that…

Factory resetting your Roku player will wipe out all of your information.

The streaming device will be unlinked from your Roku account. All your preferences will be deleted. As well as all the channels you’ve installed. So proceed with caution.

There are…

2 methods to factory-reset your Roku player.

The first is…

By pressing and holding the reset button on your Roku player.

It’s located either at the back or at the bottom of the device.

Some Roku devices have a pinhole as a reset button. You’ll need a pin or a paperclip to click it.

Once you’ve located the reset button, press and hold for 10 seconds. The reset process should then begin.

The second method of factory resetting is…

Via the Settings menu.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote and go to Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Navigate to Advanced System Settings.
  4. Click Factory Reset.

Then follow the prompt that you’ll see on your screen.

#7: Contact Roku or Paramount Plus for customer support

If you’ve done all the troubleshooting steps…

And Paramount Plus still isn’t working on your Roku…

Then it’s best to contact either Roku or Paramount Plus for technical support.

Paramount Plus’ customer support will actually require either of these 2:

  • Your IP address.
  • Your Paramount Plus Device ID.

You can find these on Roku by doing the following:

  1. On the Paramount Plus home page, go to Settings.
  2. Select Support.
  3. You’ll see your IP address and Device ID.

Take note of both before contacting Paramount Plus’ customer service.
