Why won’t my Disney Plus downloads play offline?

Disney Plus downloads not working offline: 9 fixes

#1: Check your storage space

Disney Plus recommends large storage space to download titles for offline viewing.

Needless to say, if your device is at full storage capacity, downloads won’t work.

“How much storage do I need?”

Well, this depends on the size of the download.

And the size depends on the resolution you wish to or already downloaded.

Now, a video resolution is how clear and realistic your video is.

There are 3 video qualities or resolutions to choose from:

  1. Standard-definition (SD).
  2. Middle definition.
  3. High-definition (HD).

In general, SD videos need the least storage space. And HD videos need a lot.

Apart from the resolution, video length is another primary factor. This is because it determines the size of the download.

To give an example, imagine you’re downloading a 2-hour long video.

SD resolution downloads will occupy about 0.9 GB of your device’s space. The medium resolution needs 1.4 GB.

And HD resolution videos need a whopping 5.5 GB of internal storage.

But did you know Disney Plus lets you choose which video quality to download?

Yes, they allow you to do that. So, just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the app’s ‘Settings’.
  2. Click ‘Download Quality’.
  3. Pick the desired resolution.

Note: Disney Plus gives a size estimate for every resolution. They also included how much more you can download based on your device’s available storage.

That said, not having enough internal storage is sure to cause problems.

Without it, you won’t be able to download content for offline access.

#2: Sign out from your account

You checked, and your storage is enough.

Yet, you still have problems accessing your Disney Plus downloads…

Now’s the time to sign out of your account.

“Why?”

You see, an extended period of signing in to Disney Plus causes errors.

So you’re more likely to encounter glitches and even buffers if you don’t refresh your session.

Like so, an internal glitch could’ve occurred in your previous sign-in.

Warning: Logging out will delete all your current downloads in Disney Plus.

Moreover, it’s recommended to sign out of your Disney Plus account on your current device.

Android and iOS devices can sign out of Disney Plus by doing the following:

  1. On your device, look for the Disney Plus app.
  2. Click on your Avatar.
  3. Choose Log Out at the bottom of the screen.

If you have another device, follow these steps:

  1. Open Disney Plus from your browser.
  2. Click your Avatar to see the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the ‘Account’ tab.
  4. Then click ‘Log Out of All Devices’ to finish the action.

Note: Wait for around 2 or 3 minutes before signing in again. Then check Disney Plus.

Make sure you’re connected to a stable network, too. And this will fix your problem in an instant.

#3: Clear Disney Plus cache

Disney Plus downloads won’t play if the cache gets corrupted.

A cache is a storage space on your device that stores temporary files. This allows applications to run more efficiently.

Now, clearing the cache will resolve the issue. And it takes only a minute if you follow the steps below:

For Android phones and tablet

  1. Open ‘Settings’.
  2. Find ‘Apps’, then choose Disney Plus.
  3. Go to ‘Storage’.
  4. Tap ‘Clear Cache’ and ‘Clear Data’.

In Chrome

  1. On your pc, navigate to Chrome.
  2. Drag your mouse to the top right corner and find ‘More’.
  3. Choose ‘More Tools’.
  4. Click ‘Clear Browsing Data’.
  5. Select the time range and check all boxes.
  6. Finally, click on ‘Clear Data’.

For a detailed list of devices and how to clear cache and data, refer to Disney Plus’s official help center.

#4: Update your Disney Plus app

Update Disney Plus App

Outdated apps are no good.

That’s because updates are necessary for any application to run well.

So an out-of-date Disney Plus app will generate errors. That’s even with already downloaded content.

The only way to fix this is to update the application to the latest version.

Don’t worry. It won’t take long, and you can get back to watching your shows.

Just follow the guidelines for updating your Disney Plus app below:

On Android devices

  1. Find Google Play Store from your device.
  2. Tap the ‘Menu’ on the top right of the search bar.
  3. Next, click ‘My Apps & Games’ and look for Disney Plus.
  4. Finally, tap on ‘Update’.

On iOS devices

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Click your profile to check for available updates.
  3. Find Disney Plus, then click ‘Update’.

On Playstation 4

  1. Highlight Disney Plus on the main screen.
  2. Press ‘Options’ and choose ‘Check for Update’.
  3. Press the “O” or “X” buttons to finish.

Note: You can use your console to update Disney Plus.

#5: Change your location

“What is Disney Plus error 73?”

This means the content you’re trying to access isn’t available in your country.

You see, location restrictions are very common among streaming sites these days.

What’s saddening is that this applies to all content, including those you’ve downloaded.

The good news is that you can use a VPN to hide your IP address location.

A VPN (or Virtual Private Network) can bypass these restrictions. They’re great to use and are available anytime.

Watch this video of how to access Disney Plus with a VPN:

“Isn’t there another way to stream my downloads without a VPN?”

If you don’t like using VPNs, then there’s nothing else to do but wait.

And while you do, you can watch other movies or shows instead. That’s until the one you like is available at your location.

#6: Power cycle your device

“I’ve done everything! Why doesn’t it work???”

Take it easy. And try to power cycle your device next.

Power cycling means turning off your electronic device. And turning it on again.

This action corrects any errors related to your device.

Follow this super-simple procedure to power cycle your device:

  1. Press and hold the lock button.
  2. When you see a slider, slide it to turn it off.
  3. Let your device rest for about 3 minutes.
  4. Turn it back on.

And you’re done. Your device should work without problems after a proper power cycle.

#7: Re-confirm payment details

Error 4 and 9 in Disney Plus downloads are payment-related issues.

If you encounter one of these errors, you need to re-confirm payment details.

“That’s ridiculous. I paid the membership fee.”

Make sure the card hasn’t expired. Or that you’re not behind the payment schedule.

You should also check if your card hasn’t expired before the billing date.

That’s because the app automatically glitches if any of these billing problems occur.

Moreover, you should re-check if the login details and billing information are correct.

With that, your Disney Plus offline downloads should be accessible if everything is in order.

#8: Re-check your last connected session to the internet

You might be wondering why you have to do this.

Isn’t the point of downloading videos on Disney Plus to watch them without a connection?

Yet, according to Disney, they’ll auto-remove downloaded content. That’s if you don’t connect to the internet at least once within 30 days.

Sometimes, some titles only remain on your device for a limited time after download.

This might be the reason why your Disney Plus downloads don’t work.

But it’ll be alright. As long as you have an active Disney Plus subscription, you can download titles again.

Note: You can’t open downloaded shows from one device to another. It doesn’t matter if the account is the same.

#9: Check the device limit

Yet just another limitation you’ve got to keep in mind.

Disney Plus restricts users of the same account from watching shows at the same time.

“What happens if I exceed the limit?”

Then you wouldn’t be able to access anything. This includes your downloads.

Yes, you heard that right.

And unfortunately, there’s no other way to get around this restriction. Especially if you’re using a shared account.

You only have to wait until one user logs out.

Note: Disney Plus also has a download limit of 100 titles. You won’t be able to download more content if you’ve reached this limit.
