Why is Disney Plus not working on my PS4?

Disney Plus isn’t working on your PS4 because of your network settings. The internet may be disconnected. Or your DNS server isn’t working. Another reason could be the high watch quality settings on the app. Your internet might not be able to handle the bandwidth for loading the videos.

Disney Plus not working on PS4: 7 fixes

#1: Reset your internet connection

Is your Disney Plus app stuck on the loading screen?

The easiest solution is to reset your internet connection.

The thing is, Disney Plus requires at least 5 Mbps for the app to work. If your internet has a lower bandwidth, resetting won’t do it. You need to upgrade your internet plan.

But if your internet bandwidth is already at 5 Mbps, then it’s just running slow.

Here’s what you can do to fix it:

Step 1: Do an internet speed test. You can go to sites like fast.com or speedtest.net.

Step 2: Check the download and upload speed. It should be at 5 Mbps or more. A lower number means that your internet is too slow for streaming.

Step 3: Restart your wifi router. Press the power button on your router or unplug it. Wait 5-10 seconds before turning it on again.

Step 4: When your wifi is on again, do another speed test. It should be back to normal.

Step 5: Open the Disney Plus app on your PS4. Check if it’s working.

If it is, then it’s time to start watching your favorite movies!

Note: If you’re using a wifi extender, make sure to reset that as well. Your PS4 could be detecting the extended wifi connection instead of the main one. This could also be why the Disney Plus app won’t load on your device.

#2: Restart your PS4 device

If everything’s normal on your internet settings, then the problem might be your PS4.

The device’s operating system could have run into an error. So it can’t open your Disney Plus app properly.

Restarting your PS4 is the best way to fix this. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the main screen, go to the power tab.
  2. Select “Power Options.”
  3. Choose “Restart PS4” at the bottom of the list.
  4. Press X on your controller to confirm.
  5. Wait for your PS4 to restart.

When it’s done, your PS4 should be running smoothly again.

Open the Disney Plus app and start watching videos.

Still not working?

Worst case is you might need to reset your PS4 completely. This takes it back to its original factory settings.

Only do this once you’ve backed up your console. Resetting your device will erase all the data since you started using it.

This is how to factory reset your PS4:

  1. Use your controller and go to “Settings.”
  2. Go to the “Initialization” page.
  3. Select “Initialize PS4.”
  4. Then select “Full” from the options.
  5. The PS4 will reset. Wait for it to finish.

When it’s done and your PS4 is up again, reinstall the Disney Plus app. Then just log in to your account and start streaming!

#3: Reinstall the Disney Plus app

Internet working? Check.

PS4 running normally? Check.

If Disney Plus isn’t working, then the app itself might be the problem.

A quick way to solve this would be to reinstall the app on your PS4. And it just takes a couple of clicks…

Here’s what you do:

  1. Go to “Content Launcher” or “Library” on your PS4.
  2. Highlight the Disney Plus app.
  3. Select “Options.”
  4. Press “Delete.”

Now, your Disney Plus app is no longer on your PS4.

To reinstall, follow these steps:

  1. Open the PS4 App Store.
  2. Type in “Disney” or “Disney+” on the search bar.
  3. Select the Disney Plus icon.
  4. Hit “Download” from the options.
  5. Log in to the app.

Reinstalling can help fix any bugs that prevent the videos from loading on your PS4.

Simple, right?

#4: Lower the settings and stream quality

As mentioned earlier, Disney Plus requires a bandwidth of 5 Mbps to work. If your internet plan has a lower bandwidth, find another connection source.

You can try using your mobile data if it’s fast enough.

But first, make sure you lower the streaming quality on Disney Plus. Playing videos in HD with a slow connection just doesn’t work.

Changing the settings for the app’s streaming quality on PS4 is as easy as 1, 2, 3… and 4:

  1. Open the Disney Plus app.
  2. Select “Settings” from the side menu.
  3. Go to “App Settings.”
  4. Change the ‘“Data Usage” to “Moderate” or “Save Data.”

And just like that, problem solved!

Go back to the Disney Plus app and try playing a video. It will only be in standard definition (SD), but at least it’s working.

Note: Disney Plus automatically detects your PS4’s internet speed. It adjusts the video quality accordingly. To find out what quality you’ll get for each setting, you can refer to this table:

#5: Change your DNS settings

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It’s what lets your PS4 device connect to websites and app servers.

If your DNS settings are faulty, it could be the culprit. It’s not letting you communicate with the Disney Plus Servers.

The easiest fix would be to change the DNS settings on your PS4.

Now, this could be a little tricky. Here’s what you do:

Step 1: Open “Settings” on your PS4. Then, select “Network” from the options.

Step 2: From the list, scroll to “Select Internet Connection.” Press “WiFi.” If you’re using LAN, choose “LAN cable.”

Step 3: Select “Custom” for the setup type. Under “IP Address Settings,” go to “Automatic.” Then go to “Do Not Specify” under the “DHCP Host Name.” For the “DNS Settings,” click “Manual”

Step 4: For the Primary DNS, type in 8.8.8.8. For the Secondary DNS, type in 8.8.4.4. Click ‘Next.’

Step 5: Under “MTU Settings,” select “Automatic.” Then under “Proxy Settings,” select “Do Not Use.”

Step 6: The last step is to click on “Test Internet Connection” to check if the new DNS settings work.

Phew, it really takes some steps to change your DNS settings. But hopefully, it gets Disney Plus running again.

#6: Use a VPN

As of today, Disney Plus is still only available in certain countries.

If your country isn’t on the list, chances are Disney Plus won’t work on your PS4 at all.

But don’t give up just yet. There’s a way around this problem…

And that’s through a VPN.

A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a service that hides your internet’s IP address.

Basically, it lets you use the internet without knowing where you’re located. Or where you’re using your internet connection from.

So let’s say you’re in Canada. You can use a VPN to go to websites that are blocked in Canada. Since the servers can’t tell where you actually are.

That’s pretty cool.

So, if you’re looking for a VPN that best fits your PS4, check these out:

You just need to set up the VPN of your choice on your PS4. And you’ll be good to go.

It’s a sure-fire way to stream Disney Plus on your device.

#7: Report the problem to Disney Plus

If all else fails, then it’s time to report the problem.

This should be your last resort. Only contact Disney Plus if you’re already 100% sure that the problem isn’t your internet or PS4 device.

The good thing is that the Disney Plus Help Center has a lot of useful guides.

You might even find the answer to your problem while browsing.

If not, you can always reach them through their live chat and call features. They’re available 24/7. Pretty convenient.

The Disney Plus team can hopefully get the app running on your PS4. You’ll be watching your movies in no time.

Note: When you contact Disney Plus, be sure to have your information ready. This includes your account details, your device type, and a picture or screenshot of the error. It will help speed up the process.

BONUS: 3 extra fixes when Disney Plus isn’t working on your PS4

#1: Update your Disney Plus app

Sometimes the problem could just be an outdated app.

Disney Plus could have added some new features. And you just forgot to update.

This could be why it’s not working on your PS4.

Good thing there’s an easy fix for this problem:

  1. Open your PS4 main screen.
  2. Find the Disney Plus app and select.
  3. Press “Options.”
  4. Select “Check for Update” on the right side menu.
  5. Press X on your controller.

If there’s a new version of the app, your PS4 will download it automatically.

If there’s no update, the message “The installed application is the latest version” will appear.

In this case, you may need to reinstall the app. Check out fix #3 above to see how this is done.

#2: Update your PS4

Update PS4

Your PS4 could be running on an old software version. This can cause Disney Plus and other apps to not work on your device.

To update your PS4, just follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Go down and select “System Software Update.”
  3. Select “Update Now.”
  4. Click “Next” if there are available updates.
  5. Wait for the download to complete.

This might take a while. And your PS4 will restart after finishing the download.

When it’s back, open the Disney Plus app. Try playing a video to see if it’s working.

If it is, then it’s time to sit back and enjoy the movie!

#3: Check with the Disney Plus servers

It’s also entirely possible that the problem is with Disney Plus.

Their servers could be down or broken. When this happens, all Disney Plus users can’t play videos on any device.

To check if Disney Plus is running fine, go to websites like Downdetector or UptimeRobot. Search for the Disney Plus servers.

If there are reports of outages, it means there’s a problem with Disney Plus.

The best solution would be to wait for them to fix it. In the meantime, you can try out the other fixes mentioned in this article.
