Why is YouTube not working on my Samsung TV?

Youtube isn’t working on your Samsung TV because of built-up caches, slow internet connection, or missed software and app updates. In rare cases, it can also be caused by unsupported and outdated TV models.

YouTube TV not working on Samsung TV: 7 fixes

#1: Check if your TV model is still supported

Samsung TVs are known for their high-quality browsing capabilities.

But unfortunately, not all models can keep up with their regular updates.

So if this is your first time trying to open the Youtube TV app…

You might want to double-check if your TV model still supports it.

According to Samsung, 2 models can no longer support Youtube TV.

And these 2 models are:

  • EH5300.
  • FH6200.

So if your TV is one of these 2 models, then sad to say, you can’t fix this issue.

But wait…

I don’t know what my TV model is.”

If so, fret not, as it’s easy to find a Samsung TV model number.

There are 2 ways to find what your TV’s model number:

  1. By checking the back of your TV.
  2. By finding your TV’s information in the Settings menu.

To check the model number on the back of your TV:

  1. Find the sticker with a barcode on your TV’s back cover.
  2. Find the heading that states Model.
  3. The series of numbers and letters that follow Model is your TV’s model number.

To find your TV’s model in the settings menu:

  1. Go to your TV’s Settings menu.
  2. Navigate until you see Support.
  3. Select About This TV.
  4. Find Model Code.
  5. The series of numbers in it is your TV model.

Once you verify that your TV model still supports the Youtube app, you can proceed to the next fix.

And it’s to…

#2: Power cycle your TV

Don’t be intimidated by this unfamiliar term.

Because most likely, you’ve already tried this before.

Experts define power cycling as the process of turning a unit off and turning it on again.

And it’s a simple yet effective fix for multiple Samsung TV issues.

“But why would turning my TV off fix my Youtube problem?”

To answer that, you must first know that your TV stores temporary files all the time.

And although these data are meant to help you have a more convenient experience…

Over time, they fill up your TV’s memory, thus causing problems like the one you have right now.

A power cycle deletes these temporary files, making your Samsung TV load faster again.

So without any more delay, let’s dive into the steps of power cycling a Samsung TV.

To power cycle your TV:

  1. Turn your TV off.
  2. Unplug it from the socket.
  3. Leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Plug it back and turn it on again.

If your Youtube TV still isn’t working…

#3: Check your internet connection

Check Your Internet Connection

Like every streaming platform…

Youtube TV also requires a stable internet connection to work.

So, if you’re internet is bad, the app might not work like it’s supposed to.

If this is the case, though, then you shouldn’t worry.

Samsung TV’s network status is particularly easy to check.

To access Network Status:

  1. Click Home on your remote control.
  2. Navigate to Settings on the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Go down to the 4th icon to access General.
  4. Select Network.
  5. Click on Network Status.

There’ll be a visual representation of your TV’s network status.

If there’s a red “X” somewhere in the image, there’s a problem with your TV’s network.

If the “X” is between the TV and the router:

  • Restart the router.
  • Make sure that all its cables are connected.
  • Try connecting your TV through an ethernet cable instead of Wi-fi.

If the “X” is between the router and the Globe icon:

  • Contact your internet provider.

Tips for getting a better internet connection:

  • Place your router near your TV.
  • Update your TV’s software regularly.
  • Reduce the number of devices using your Wi-fi.
  • If issues still persist, try doing a factory reset on your TV.

If these tips fix your internet problem, try playing Youtube again.

But if your internet isn’t the problem…

#4: Update your app and your TV’s software

Updates make apps and software run more efficiently.

So likewise, the absence of them also causes the opposite effect.

Not updating your system regularly can cause glitches and problems with your TV.

But you’re lucky as updating Youtube, and your Samsung TV is easy.

To update your Youtube app:

  1. Press the Smart Hub button on your remote.
  2. Head to Features.
  3. Find the Youtube app or icon.
  4. Hover over the app and press and hold the Enter button.
  5. In the pop-up window, select Update apps.
  6. Choose Select all.
  7. Select Update all.
  8. Restart your Samsung TV.

Once you update your Youtube TV app, try playing a title from Youtube again.

If there’s still no progress, proceed to…

Update your software:

  1. On your remote, press the Home button.
  2. On the bottom left of the screen, select Settings.
  3. Go down and click on the Support icon.
  4. Select Software Update.
  5. Click on Update Now.
  6. The window “Browse Files on USB Flash Drive” will pop up.
  7. Select No.
  8. If there’s an update available, click Yes.
  9. Wait for the update to finish.
  10. Your TV will restart after the update.

#5: Reinstall Youtube TV

The next fix you should try is to reinstall your Youtube TV.

Don’t worry. This process is easy.

Steps to reinstall the Youtube app:

  1. Tap the Home button on your remote.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Find the Youtube app.
  4. Click on the icon and select Reinstall.
  5. Wait for the installation to finish.

Check your app once again.

If reinstalling Youtube didn’t fix the problem…

#6: Reset your Samsung TV’s Smart Hub

The next method you need to try is to reset your TV’s Smart Hub.

“What does this reset do?”

A Smart Hub reset resets all your apps to their default settings.

And as this also resets Youtube, it could fix the problem.

Note: Resetting the Smart Hub will log you out of your Samsung account and all your apps.

Tip: Before resetting, gather all your log-in information to ensure a faster log-in process.

To reset your TV’s Smart Hub:

  1. Click the Home button on your remote control.
  2. Scroll down the left panel until you find Support.
  3. Select Self Diagnosis.
  4. Scroll down and click the Reset Smart Hub option.
  5. Enter your pin.

Note: If you haven’t changed your pin before, the default pin is 0000.

After resetting the Smart Hub, log in to your Samsung account.

Then, go to the apps, and log in to the Youtube TV.

Try playing a couple of videos from the app.

If it still doesn’t work…

#7: Reset your TV to its factory defaults

The good thing about this reset is it’s the most thorough reset you can do to your TV.

It’ll clear most of your memory and data, restoring your TV to its original state and speed.

Just like how it was when it was brand new.

But the slightly annoying aspect of this reset is…

It’ll also delete all of your apps in the process.

But fret not.

I’ll be here to guide you in resetting your software and reinstalling all your apps.

Tip: Before you do a factory reset, I suggest you take note of all the apps you currently own. This will ensure that you won’t forget to install any app later afterward.

To reset your TV to its factory defaults:

  1. Tap on the Home button of your remote.
  2. Go through the left panel until you see Support.
  3. Select Support > Self Diagnosis.
  4. Go to the very bottom of the list.
  5. Click Reset.
  6. Select Reset TV to factory defaults.
  7. Enter the pin 0000 if you have never customized your pin before.
  8. Restart your TV.

At this point, all your apps will be deleted.

But fortunately, in some models…

Youtube TV is a built-in app, so you won’t need to install it manually.

Log in to your Youtube again, and it should be working.

“But wait… how do I install my other apps again?”

Don’t worry.

Here is the step-by-step process.

To install apps on your Samsung TV:

  1. Tap the Home button.
  2. Go to the 3 horizontal lines on the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Click Apps.
  4. Hover to the upper right side of your TV screen.
  5. Click on the magnifying glass.
  6. Type the name of the app you want to install and enter.
  7. Select the app.
  8. Press on Install.
  9. Sign in to your Samsung Account.
  10. Select Add to Home.

Bonus: Reach out to Youtube customer support

If none of these methods worked, I suggest you contact Youtube’s customer support.

Go to their Contact Us Page and follow their on-screen instructions to contact them.

They can be contacted through:

  • Call.
  • Email.
  • Live-chat.

But whichever of these methods you choose…

The best part of Youtube’s customer service is that you can contact them 24/7.
