  • And much, much more…

Why is my Xfinity router blinking white?

Your Xfinity router is blinking white because you haven’t activated your device yet. This problem also happens when your ISP has a service outage in your area. And your Xfinity router blinks white when it’s glitching. Or if there are loose cables connected to your device.

Xfinity router blinking white: 5 fixes

#1: Activate your Xfinity router

Did you just finish setting up your router?

Then, most likely…

Your Xfinity device is blinking white because you haven’t activated it yet.

See, you won’t be able to access your router’s Internet if you don’t complete its setup process.

So, to fix this blinking white issue, follow these…

7 quick steps to activate your Xfinity router:

Step 1: Download the Xfinity app

If you already have it on your mobile device…

But if you still need to install or update the Xfinity app…

Head to its official download page (Android/iOS).

And once you have the application on your device …

Step 2: Sign in using your Xfinity account

Don’t have one yet?

Not a problem.

Just head to Xfinity’s official sign-up website

And input the information needed to set up your account.

Step 3: Allow the app to access your phone’s camera

Right after signing in…

You’ll see a pop-up that asks you to allow the Xfinity app to access your camera.

So, select OK from the options that appear, then…

Step 4: Locate your router’s QR code

You’ll usually find this at the side or bottom of your device.

Step 5: Scan the QR code

Point your Xfinity app’s camera to the QR code on your router. Until a green checkmark icon appears on your screen.

Now, if your phone won’t scan the QR code…

Manually link your app and router instead by following these steps:

  1. Find the 12-digit CM MAC code at the back or bottom of your router.
  2. Input this number on your app.
  3. Double-check that every digit is correct.
  4. Tap Next on your screen.
Step 6: Set up your router

The Xfinity app will give you helpful tips for optimizing your device’s placement.

And it’ll also teach you how to properly set up your router’s cables.

So, simply follow the instructions on your screen until you have to…

Step 7: Customize your WiFi network

As the last step of the activation process…

Input your preferred WiFi name and password inside the Xfinity app.

Then, tap the Done option at the bottom of your screen.

Now, all that’s left to do is wait until your network finishes its setup process. Which usually takes around 10 minutes.

Note: Don’t exit your app or turn OFF your phone while your router is still activating.

#2: Check if there’s a service interruption

If your router’s pending activation isn’t the cause of this issue…

There’s a big chance that your ISP temporarily stopped its services in your area.

The service provider’s servers or equipment may be experiencing some unexpected problems.

See, back in April 2022

Xfinity’s fiber lines were damaged when a heavy storm hit Central Florida.

As a result…

Thousands of Xfinity users lost access to their WiFi in that particular location.

Now, your current problem may be similar to the situation I just mentioned.

So, before you start fiddling with your router, follow these steps to…

Check if Xfinity has a service outage in your area:

Step 1: Open up a browser

You can do this on your phone or PC.

Step 2: Head to Xfinity’s official website

Proceed to using the browser you opened.

Step 3: Sign in to your account

Click the person-looking icon at the top-right corner of your screen.

Then, tap the purple Sign In button on the window that appears.

After logging in…

Step 4: Click the Account icon

This is the same person-shaped button you tapped earlier.

Step 5: Select Status Center

You’ll find this tile under the Common Solutions section of the website.

Step 6: Read the banner at the top of your screen

Note: If there’s a green check icon, there’s no service outage in your location. So, continue to the next fixes to stop this blinking white problem on your router.

“But I see a red icon, not a green one.”

In that case, Xfinity’s services are currently down in your area.

So, all you can do is wait until the brand fixes the problem in your network. Which is causing the blinking white light on your device.

#3: Restart your router

Do you remember the last time you restarted your router?

Well, if you don’t…

It’s not really surprising.

Because most people don’t interact with their routers regularly.

Not restarting your WiFi source for months can put a toll on your device’s system.

See, like your phone and PC…

Your router also runs multiple tasks at any given time.

So, similar to other gadgets…

You should also let your WiFi source pause its tasks. And refresh its system occasionally.

Because if you don’t, with time, your router may:

  • Slow your Internet speed down.
  • Stop letting you access the Internet.
  • Start blinking white (or green) lights.

Don’t worry, though.

It’s pretty easy to restart your router.

And I’ll show you 2 ways to do so.

Let me start with the steps for…

Restarting your Xfinity device using its app:

  1. Launch the Xfinity application on your phone/tablet.
  2. Log in to your account if needed.
  3. Scroll down the app and select the Internet tile.
  4. Choose your router from the list.
  5. Tap Restart this device.
  6. Wait for the restart process to be finished (around 7 minutes).

Don’t want to use the app for this process?

Then, follow these steps to…

Power cycle your Xfinity router:

  1. Unplug your device from the outlet.
  2. Set a timer for 1 minute.
  3. Plug it back into its power source.

Once you’ve restarted your router…

Observe it for 3 minutes and check if you still see the blinking white light.

#4: Reconnect your router’s cables

Loose cable connections are notorious for interrupting routers’ activities. Regardless of your ISP.

So, if your device is still blinking white, you should…

Reseat your Xfinity router’s cords:

Step 1: Unplug every cable from your device.

Note: You may or may not include the power cord.

Step 2: Reconnect the cables to your router.

Ensure that you push them all the way through.

Step 3: Wait for 3 minutes so your router can detect the new connections.

Now, if this process still doesn’t remove the blinking light from your router, it’s time to…

#5: Factory reset your device

There might be bugs or glitches attached to your current network settings.

And the only way to remove them is through a factory reset.

Simply speaking…

This process deletes all your information from your router. Which includes your WiFi name and password. So, take note of your network’s credentials before you follow these…

Steps to factory reset your Xfinity router:

Step 1: Locate your device’s Reset button

You’ll find this at the back of your router.

Note: It’s not a tactile or protruding button. Hence, it’ll look like a small hole.

Step 2: Find a pointy object

You may use a paperclip, toothpick, or your phone’s SIM card key.

Step 3: Push the reset button

Use the sharp object you prepared earlier to poke inside the Reset hole.

And keep pressing it for 30 seconds. Or until all the lights on your device turn OFF.

After this process, set up your router again by following the first fix in this article.

And if you still see the blinking white light…

Bonus: Contact Xfinity’s customer support team

Your router most likely has hardware or software defects.

And only Xfinity’s tech experts can fix these types of problems.

So, if you still haven’t stopped the blinking white light issue on your router…

Head to your ISP’s support website.

Then, tap the Ask Xfinity button on the left to contact the brand’s representatives.

Pro tip: Inform Xfinity’s support team that you’ve already tried the fixes above. So they’ll only give you solutions you haven’t tried yet.
