Why is Paramount Plus not streaming?
Paramount Plus isn’t streaming due to using unsupported browsers and an outdated app. Likewise, slow networks, VPNs, and ad-blockers cause streaming issues on Paramount Plus. Tracking protection on some browsers could be the source of your problems, too.
Paramount Plus not streaming: 5 fixes
#1: Check your internet connection
Checking your internet connection is an ideal way to begin the troubleshooting process.
After all, without the internet, streaming online content would be impossible.
“But I’m connected to the internet.”
Unfortunately, connecting to the internet isn’t enough. Your connection has to be stable too.
Paramount Plus requires a high-speed internet connection of at least 4 Mbps. So if your network speed is lower than this, you won’t be able to stream at all.
Moreover, the premium streaming plan on Paramount Plus supports Dolby Vision, 4K, and HDR 10. And this requires a steady 25 Mbps internet speed.
Now, to check your internet connection, you can do a speed test. It’s possible to do that on websites like Fast.com.
With that, make sure you have enough download speed as streaming is a download process.
If you see a problem with your speed result, below are some ways to improve it:
Power cycle or restart your WiFi router
Power cycling gives your router a chance to clear its internal cache.
Here’s how to restart your router:
- Hold down your router’s power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Re-connect the power cord to the router.
Reconnect to your Wi-Fi
Refresh your log-in session by reconnecting to your network.
To do this, you can turn off the Wi-Fi on your device. Then turn it back on right after.
You can also disconnect your device from the Wi-Fi network altogether.
This is how to do it:
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Choose the Wi-Fi you’re connected to.
- Then click Forget this Network.
- Wait for about 3 minutes and re-connect.
Move your router
If your router is too far from the device streaming Paramount Plus, it’s likely to cause streaming issues.
For instance, you’d notice that there are spots in the house where the reception isn’t so good. That’s because physical barriers such as walls or furniture block your Wi-Fi signal.
To deal with this, consider moving your router somewhere more central and elevated. Or use Wi-Fi extenders.
Moreover, did you know that other wireless devices create delays and Wi-Fi traffic?
Yep. We’re talking about your wireless phones or Bluetooth-enabled devices.
It’s best to keep these items away from your router to avoid interference.
Fun fact: Your microwave also transmits electromagnetic waves. These waves interfere with your network signals.
Use an Ethernet cord
Ethernet cords give a better and more stable connection. There’s no interference or interruptions when using it.
Plus, it transmits data faster, reducing the buffer time. So it’s a more suited choice when streaming.
“But I’m using my smartphone to stream Paramount Plus.”
Don’t fret.
There are so many ethernet adapters available these days. They’re affordable and enable wired connection even when you’re using your phone.

#2: Check your Browser
If you’re using your PC, Paramount Plus isn’t streaming because your browser isn’t supported.
The web browsers supported by Paramount Plus are:
- Safari.
- Mozilla Firefox.
- Microsoft Edge.
- Google Chrome.
Another thing to remember is always to enable JavaScript and cookies on your browser.
JavaScript makes pages to be interactive. While Cookies are data stored from websites you visit.
And you need both of them to stream Paramount Plus without issues.
Besides, the streaming site only supports specific versions of the browser. It has also set a system specification.
These are what you need to be aware of:
Google Chrome
Mac OS X version 10.0 and above, and Windows 8 and 10 can stream Paramount Plus on Google Chrome.
For Windows XP or Vista, as well as Mac OS versions 10.6 and 10.8, v68 of Chrome or higher is necessary.
Note: Users running on Chrome v68 or lower can only stream live TV due to digital restrictions.
Safari
The default macOS browser should run in Mac OS X version 10.10 or higher. And Safari v9 is the lowest browser version supported.
Mozilla Firefox
Your pc should be running on either Windows 8 or 10 operating system. For Mac, it should be Mac OS X version 10.9 and above.
Mac OS X version 10.6 up to 10.8 supports the latest v48 of Mozilla Firefox.
Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge v14 is the lowest version supported on Windows 10 and higher.
Unfortunately, Internet Explorer isn’t anymore supported by Paramount Plus. For Windows 8 users, consider shifting to an alternative supported browser.
Whatever desktop browser you prefer to use, make sure that they are the latest version.
“What should I do if my browser isn’t the latest version?”
Well, in that case, you should look at the next fix on this list.

#3: Update your browser
Okay. You passed all system and browser requirements necessary to run Paramount Plus.
But you still can’t stream any content. This might be because your browser is out of date.
When your browser is old, it can’t communicate with a website server well.
And playback and buffer issues will keep happening if you don’t update your browser.
Additionally, an updated web browser protects your device from malware. Malware, known as a computer virus, harms your system.
So, to update your browser, follow these:
For Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome.
- On the top right corner, click the three vertical dots.
- Next, scroll to Settings.
- Scroll down to Advanced and then click About Chrome.
- Wait for updates to install.
- Finally, click Relaunch to finish installing the updates.
For Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
- Open the web browser.
- On the top right corner, click the three horizontal dots.
- Choose Help and Feedback (for Edge) and Help (for Firefox).
- Scroll down to About Microsoft Edge or About Mozilla Firefox.
- The browsers will then check and download updates.
- Restart or relaunch the browser.
For Safari users, refer to this guide on how to update your browser to the latest version.
Note: Apple doesn’t release Safari updates on Windows PC anymore. Safari version 5.1.7 is the last one.
Check out this video to see how to update your browser:
#4: Turn off tracking protection (for Firefox)
For Mozilla Firefox, you should disable tracking protection for browsers.
This tracking protection prevents your data from getting collected. It’s for privacy and malware protection.
“Then why the heck would I turn that off??”
You see, it’s like a double-edged sword.
While it protects your data, it also causes streaming problems on Paramount Plus. The best way is to turn it off before watching movies and other content.
So now, here’s how to turn off Firefox tracking protection:
- Launch Mozilla Firefox.
- On the top right corner, click the hamburger-looking icon.
- Choose Settings or Options.
- Next, click Privacy and Security.
- Then, unclick Standard and choose the Strict option.
- Launch the browser again.
#5: Disable Adblockers
Adblockers, as you guessed, prevent ads on web pages.
Using them can lead to Paramount Plus not working right. Sometimes, you won’t be able to stream at all.
That’s why disabling them is the only way to go.
Note: Error code 4201 or error code 1200 are both problems with adblockers.
Here’s how to disable Adblocker:
- Open Paramount Plus on your web browser.
- Hover to the Adblock icon, then click.
- In the drop-down menu, choose Always.
- Wait for the page to refresh.
After the Adblock is off, the icon should turn green. This means you’ve successfully turned it off.
