#2: Talk to a visitor
Two-way communication is possible between Ring doorbell or security camera and Alexa.
So, when the Alexa app announces that someone is at your front door…
You can speak with them if you want to.
Let’s say you named your Ring Doorbell “Door 1.”
You can start by giving a command to Alexa.
Such as:
- “Alexa, talk to Door 1.”
- “Alexa, answer Door 1.”
- “Alexa, I’ll speak with Door 1.”
After that, you can now proceed to communicate with your visitor.
And if you’re done speaking with the person…
You can simply say, “Alexa, stop.”
Or anything similar.
Note: To date, this feature is only accessible in:
- UK.
- Italy.
- USA.
- Spain.
- France.
- Mexico.
- Canada.
- Australia.
- Germany.
Once it’s available in other parts of the globe…
Ring will post an announcement on their page.
#3: See what’s happening outside
If you want to get a glimpse of the outside view…
But you’re too busy to step out of the house…
Then Alexa can make things easier for you.
She can give you a view of live activities through your Amazon Echo Show.
You just need to say, “Alexa, show Door 1.”
And if you want to refrain from viewing live activities…
You can tell her, “Alexa, stop.”
Moreover, if you don’t want to talk to a visitor…
You can turn off the microphone of your Echo Show.
Here’s how:
- Find the button with a circle through it. (It has a diagonal line in the middle).
- Then simply press it.
Important: Turning off the microphone also means Alexa wouldn’t hear your commands. So, if you need anything from her again, press the button to turn it back on. Also, make sure your volumes are up.
Moreover, you can adjust it through the device volume button.
Or you can say, “Alexa, increase/decrease the volume.”
#4: Assist family members with disabilities
Ring and Alexa want to make people’s lives more convenient.
And this is especially for people with disabilities.
As quick as asking the Alexa app to show the front door through Echo Show…
They no longer have to exert effort to personally reach the front door.
Moreover…
You can also use this feature to look after a family member with a mental disorder.
For instance…
If someone from your home suffers from Alzheimer’s…
And they try to leave the house without your knowledge…
Your Ring doorbell will detect their motion.
And Alexa will alert you right away.
To start this, here’s how:
- Open your Alexa app.
- Go to Devices.
- Tap on Echo and Alexa.
- Tap on your Ring device.
- Go to Device Settings.
- Tap Motion Detection.
- Switch on.
So, if your Ring motion sensor isn’t working…
It’s best to get it fixed right away.
#5: Be protected from threats
In connection to #4…
Motion detection is also a way to ensure your safety.
Since your Ring doorbell is smart and alert…
