How to get Crunchyroll on Samsung TV – 3 ways

First of all, it’s best you know that Crunchyroll stopped supporting Samsung TVs. With that, the app is no longer available in the Smart Hub.

However, that’s not to say it’s the end of Crunchyroll on your Samsung TV.

At first, it disappointed a lot of Crunchyroll subscribers.

Some even intended to buy a Samsung TV to steam Crunchyroll with quality. That’s despite how expensive the television is

Thankfully, there are a few alternatives besides installing the app on your TV.

And they’re very easy to do as well. So, let’s start with:

#1: Cast/Mirror your phone/tablet/PC

Your Samsung TV’s high specs won’t be in vain…

You can still stream your favorite Crunchyroll content in HD, 4K, or even 8K.

So, you can grab your phone or tablet…

Or prepare your PC…

It’s time to use the screen mirroring feature of those devices. And one by one, I’ll tell you how to:

How to mirror Crunchyroll from your phone/tablet to your Samsung TV

iPhone/iPad:

Note: This is only for iPhones that Apple released from 2018 onwards, namely:

  • iPad mini 4.
  • 2018 iPad Pro.
  • iPad 9.7 6th Gen.
  • iPhone X onwards.

If you found your device above, you can proceed to:

Step 1: Ensure that your Samsung TV and iPhone are connected to the same WiFi network.

Step 2: Access the Crunchyroll app on your phone (or download it from the App store first).

Step 3: Once open, select the content you want to watch.

Step 4: Click the AirPlay icon on the screen.

Step 5: Then, select your Samsung Smart TV on the list of devices that’ll appear.

With that, you can continue watching the content you chose earlier.

Android:

Note: There’s a wide selection of Android devices. However, you can access Crunchyroll on any device that runs on Android OS 2.1+.

But, not every gadget with that OS has the option listed in step #4 below:

Step 1: Check whether your device and Samsung TV are connected to the same WiFi network.

Step 2: Open the Crunchyroll app on your phone (or download it from Google Playstore first).

Step 3: Choose the show you want to stream once the app is open.

Step 4: Click the cast icon, which you can find in the top-right corner.

Step 5: Select your Samsung TV from the list of devices.

How to mirror Crunchyroll from your computer to your Samsung TV

Step 1: Open Google Chrome, which automatically shows a new Chrome tab.

Step 2: Proceed to the Crunchyroll website.

Step 3: Log in to your Crunchyroll account.

Step 4: At the top right corner of your browser window, click the 3 dots.

Step 5: Select Cast.

Step 6: Choose your Samsung TV on the list of devices.

But if your device is compatible with your Samsung TV…

Yet, casting its screen is faulty…

Then, you’ll have to:

Update your Samsung TV’s software

Note: You’ll need a USB drive for this.

Step 1: Go to Samsung Download Center.

Step 2: Find your TV on the list. You can do that in 2 ways:

  1. Choose Product Type and look for your TV.
  2. Enter your TV’s model number.

For the latter, you can find the model number on the back of your TV. Or by following these instructions:

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Choose Support.
  3. Select About This TV.

There, you’ll find the following:

  • Serial code.
  • Model number.
  • Software version.

Step 3: Once you find your TV Model, clicking it should take you to its support page.

From there, you’ll see the needed update under ‘Firmware.’

And if there’s a long list of updates…

You won’t have to click all of them…

Just click ‘Download’ on the latest version, which is the one at the top.

Step 4: When the download is finished, locate the file.

  1. Unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Copy or Move everything on the unzipped file to your USB drive.

Note: Don’t place it on any other folders. If you do, your Samsung TV won’t be able to find the update.

Step 5: Connect the USB drive to your Samsung TV’s USB port.

Step 6: Get your TV’s remote to:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Support.
  3. Click Software Update.
  4. Select Update Now.
  5. Choose Yes.

After that, your TV will find the update on the files.

Once it does, follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: The update only takes a few minutes. But while it’s in the process, don’t turn your TV off. Not until the update is finished. Once it is, your TV will restart by itself.

Well, that was quite a process, wasn’t it?

So to never have to do this again…

Set your Samsung TV to update its software automatically.

#2: Use a streaming stick

I know. Most Samsung TVs are already smart TVs.

That means they can connect to the Internet. Which lets you browse websites and stream online media on the TV itself.

And with that, you shouldn’t have to make use of a streaming stick anymore.

But for this case, I highly recommend that you get one.

So, to stream high-quality content from Crunchyroll on your Samsung TV…

Spend a few worthy bucks on Amazon’s Fire TV Stick

It might have some features that are already available on your Samsung smart TV. Like Netflix or other apps…

But this streaming stick can offer a lot more.

For one, there’s the most-loved AI assistant, Alexa.

And with just one press of a button…

You can command her to access something on your TV. Thus saving you many clicks.

That said, here’s how to…

Access the Crunchyroll app through your Fire TV Stick

Step 1: Connect your Fire Stick to your TV
  1. Take the HDMI end of your Fire Stick and connect it to your TV.
  2. You should plug the USB end of the cord into a power adapter.
  3. And connect that adapter to a power source.

Note: Remember which HDMI port you connected your Fire Stick TV to. You’ll need it for the next step.

Step 2: Access the Fire TV input

When you do step #1 while your TV is on…

A pop-up will show asking you to change the input source. You should click “Yes” for your TV to start showing the Fire TV interface.

But if that’s not the case, grab your remote and:

  1. Press the menu button.
  2. Select Source.
  3. Choose the HDMI port to which you connected the Fire Stick TV to.
Step 3: Search for the Crunchyroll app

You can go to the Amazon App Store itself. Then, search for Crunchyroll there.

But even if you’re currently in the Home menu of your Fire TV…

You can search Crunchyroll already. And it should appear just the same.

Step 4: Select Crunchyroll from the results

There’ll be more than 1 result aside from Crunchyroll itself. But those are just related apps.

So select Crunchyroll, which is the 1st result.

Step 5: Click the Get button to start the download
Step 6: Open the Crunchyroll app

Once installed, Crunchyroll will appear on your list of apps.

With that, you can open it…

And, of course, finally, stream the content you’ve been dying to watch.

#3: Use an HDMI cable to cast your PC screen

Use An HDMI Cable To Cast Your PC Screen

If you’re frugal and don’t see the necessity of buying a streaming stick…

Or if you still want to use your phone while your TV is on…

Then here comes a cheap option to the rescue…

Because Amazon Fire TV Stick starts at $39…

But this 6-ft HDMI cable is just about $8. And then, the shorter it is, the cheaper it becomes.

So when you get one, it’s time to…

Cast your PC screen to your Samsung TV using an HDMI cable

Step 1: Connect the HDMI cable to one of your Samsung TV’s HDMI ports

Note: For a faster connecting process, do this with your Samsung TV turned on.

Step 2: Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to your PC

If your PC doesn’t have an HDMI port…

Then, you can still use an adapter. Here are some recommendations:

Step 3: Change the input source on your Samsung TV

As I mentioned before, the process is faster when you have your TV turned on.

That’s because…

The moment your TV detects the connection between it and the PC…

Then, a pop-up will appear. It’ll ask you to proceed to change the input. And all you have to do is select “Yes” to change the display.

Step 4: Open Crunchyroll on your PC

After all that, it’s time to go to Crunchyroll’s website. Log in. Then, pick the show you want to watch.

That simple.
