“Wait! I don’t see any ‘Uninstall’ button on it. What should I do?”
If you don’t see an “uninstall” button, it means that the SmartThings app on your phone is pre-installed.
This can happen to some of the Samsung phones or tablets.
A pre-installed app is an app that manufacturers automatically install on the phone.
And yes, you can’t delete it.
Unless you root your phone.
Warning: Rooting your phone will void any warranty that it has. Plus, it may cause your device to malfunction when performed incorrectly.
“Fine! I can’t delete it. But is there any way I can stop receiving updates from it?”
Yes, you can disable the SmartThings app to stop actions from it.
To do that, proceed to the next step!
#3: Go to settings
First, head over to your phone’s settings.
Since the app is pre-installed, you can’t disable it from the app’s tray.
You can only disable it directly from your app settings page.
Tip: Scroll down from the top of your phone to access the quick access setting. Then, click the gear icon at the top-right corner to open the settings page quicker.
#4: Proceed to “Apps”
Scroll down a bit and look for “Apps.”
Click it once to open another menu page.
Then, click the “Apps” from the selection.

#5: Select the SmartThings app
Now, search for the SmartThings app on the list.
You can scroll down to locate it.
And you can also use the search bar to find it more easily.
Once found, click it to open the settings page.
From there, you’ll see that there’s no “Uninstall” icon.
The only buttons available are the “Disable” and “Force Stop” buttons.
“What is ‘Force Stop’? Can it delete the app?”
No, “Force Stop” doesn’t delete the app.
The only thing it can do is to stop the SmartThings app from currently running.
“Can I just choose to force stop the app instead of disabling it?”
Sure, you can.
But remember that the SmartThings can run again even after pressing it.
The “Force Stop” button only stops the app from running only from that very moment.
Once new update notifications arrive, the SmartThings app will run again.
So, if you really want the app to stop updating, disable it.
#6: Click “Disable”
If you’ve already decided to disable the app, click the “Disable” button once.
Warning: Disabling the SmartThings app can cause it to malfunction once enabled. So, only do this if you’re sure that you’re not using it in the future.
“Hmm…just to be safe. Is there any way I can just hide from my phone’s menu?”
Yes, you can just hide the app if you don’t want to fully disable it.
Here’s how you can do it using a Samsung smartphone:
- Pinch the home screen to show the menu options.
- Click the “Home screen settings” on the bottom-right corner.
- Next, select “Hide apps.”
- Tap on the SmartThings app.
- Then, select “Done” to complete the action.
After that, the SmartThings app will not show up on your apps’ tray and home page.
#7: Click “OK” to confirm
For the second time, are you really sure that you want to disable the SmartThing app from your phone?
If yes, click the “OK” button to confirm your action.
By this time, the SmartThings app will be removed from your apps’ tray and home page.
And you will stop receiving notifications and updates from it.
If you’ve ever decided to use the SmartThings app on your phone, just perform the same actions from above.
But instead of clicking “Disable,” click the “Enable” button to use the app.
Suppose you experience problems with the app after enabling it.
