Why is there no sound on my TCL TV?
There’s no sound on your TCL TV because your volume isn’t high enough. Improper audio settings and outdated firmware can also cause this problem. And in other cases, it’s because your TV is glitching and needs a simple restart.
TCL TV no sound: 9 fixes
#1: Check the volume of your TV
It’s easy to panic when a perfectly fine TV loses its audio out of nowhere.
But the most common cause of TCL TVs not having any sound isn’t even a problem at all.
Often, when you can’t hear audio from your TV…
It’s simply because it’s muted, or your volume is just too low for you to hear anything. Maybe there are loud noises outside that prevent you from hearing.
So before you try to do any formal “fix,” check your volume first.
To do so:
Step 1: Using your remote, press the volume up button.
It’s the 1st button on the right side of your remote control.
Step 2: Move closer to your TV.
This will allow you to hear your speakers better.
Step 3: Set your volume higher than 50%.
Step 4: Observe if you can hear anything at all.
Note: While you’re at it, ensure that your device isn’t on mute. Click the last button on the right side of your remote to mute/unmute your TV.

#2: Try other apps or channels
When audio stops working on TCL TVs…
It’s not always because of the TV itself.
Sometimes, the apps or channels you’re streaming on are the ones causing the problem.
Fortunately, though, it’s easy to know if this is the case.
If you’re currently streaming on an app like Netflix, just switch to a different 1.
Once you do, check if your audio works again.
If this doesn’t help…
#3: Power cycle your TV
A slightly fancy term, I know.
But don’t worry.
The process itself is very simple, and you’ve probably already done this before.
To power cycle your TV…
All you need to do is unplug it from the outlet and plug it back again.
Easy right?
But this fix can work wonders and solve a whole range of problems.
And if you’re wondering why this works…
It’s pretty straightforward.
Although TVs don’t physically get tired as you and I do…
They can still get overwhelmed by all the tasks they’re doing.
And when this happens…
They run into all sorts of problems doing even the most basic commands.
Like playing the audio of the show you’re watching.
But thankfully, a power cycle is enough to get your TV working properly again.
To power cycle your TCL TV:
- Turn your TV off.
- Unplug it from its power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back into an outlet again.
- Make sure to insert the adapter fully.
- Power ON your TV.
Still having problems? Then…
#4: Check your audio settings
TCL has 1 unique feature that you’ll have difficulty finding in any other TVs.
And that’s the choice to turn OFF your TV speakers.
“Isn’t that just muting it?”
Well, no.
This is a separate option on your TV, and you can find it on its settings menu.
And if this setting is OFF, that would explain why you’re not getting any audio.
To check your TCL audio settings:
- On your remote, press Home.
- Scroll down until you hover over Settings.
- Click it and select Audio.
- Tap the 1st option on the list labeled “Speakers.”
- On the right side of your screen, choose TV speakers.
And while you’re at it…
Update your audio settings:
- Press Home again.
- Go to Settings > Audio.
- Select Audio mode.
- Press the right arrow on your remote.
- Highlight Auto (Stereo)
Check if doing this fixed your audio problem.

#5: Turn OFF Automatic Volume Leveling
Different movies and TV shows also have different volume quality and levels.
That’s why modern TCL TVs include an Automatic Volume Leveling feature in their system.
As the name suggests, Volume Leveling aims to keep your TV’s volume constant…
No matter what type of media is playing on your device.
But being a fairly new feature…
This setting isn’t always accurate and is prone to many bugs and glitches.
Some users experience a noticeable audio lag when this setting is ON…
And for some, this stopped their TV’s audio output completely.
Similar to what’s happening to your TV now.
Luckily, though, all you need to do is click a couple of remote buttons to fix this.
To turn Automatic Volume Leveling OFF:
- Press Home on your remote.
- Select Settings.
- Click Audio > Volume modes.
- From the 3 options, select OFF.
#6: Power cycle your router
“What does my internet have to do with my TV audio?”
If you’re streaming using the internet, it has everything to do with it.
It’s easy to think that all Wifi has to load is the video aspect of the show you’re watching.
But you have to remember…
Your internet is also the 1 responsible for processing the audio of these videos.
So you need to pay attention to your network’s speed too.
How?
Don’t worry. I got you.
The easiest way to boost your internet connection is to power cycle your router.
You’re already familiar with power cycling. So trust me, this process will be a piece of cake.
To power cycle your Wifi router:
- Unplug it from its power source.
- Wait for 1 minute.
- Plug it back into the wall outlet.
- Wait for it to turn ON.
- Double-check that your TV is still connected to the network.
If you want to take this a step further, here are…
Other ways you can improve your TCL TV’s internet connection:
- Move your router closer to your TV.
- Disconnect other devices from the network.
- Connect your TV to your router using an ethernet cable.
Try to play a film or movie again.
If you still can’t hear anything…
#7: Reset your audio/picture settings
With all the audio settings you can change on your TCL TV…
It’s not uncommon to accidentally change 1 of them into an incompatible setup.
“What do you mean?”
Like choosing Bluetooth speakers as your output when you’re not even using 1.
Although minor, setting adjustments like these can significantly change your TV’s audio.
But there’s nothing to worry about.
You can easily return all your audio settings to their default states by…
Resetting your TV’s audio/picture settings.
To reset the audio/picture settings of your TCL TV:
- Press Home on your remote control.
- Head to Settings > System.
- Find Advanced System Settings.
- Select Factory Reset.
- Choose Reset audio/picture settings.
- Tap the play/pause button on your remote 3 times.
Check if this solved your problem.
If it didn’t…
#8: Update your TV
Most modern TVs are programmed to automatically update when they’re not used.
So I don’t blame you if you’ve never really checked if your TV is updated or not.
But similar to any other technological device…
Odd factors like bugs or glitches can also affect your TCL TV’s automatic updates.
Which results in them not downloading at all.
But fret not. It’s easy to update your TV again.
Even if you’ve missed multiple updates over time…
You’ll only need to do this process once.
Convenient, right?

Then, try playing a movie or a song again.

It’s time to…
#9: Conduct a factory reset
This is the last solution you can try if your TV sound still isn’t working.
“What’s a factory reset?”
It’s a reset that brings your TV settings to their default or original state.
Some examples of what will be deleted during this process are your:
- Menu preferences.
- Customized settings.

Pro tip: Remember all the data you want to keep from your current setup before proceeding.
This way, you can still set up your TV like it is now.

- Scroll down, then click Settings.
- Select System > Advanced system settings.
- Head to the Factory reset option.
- From here, select “Factory reset everything.”
- You’ll see a code on the screen.
- Type out the code shown on your TV using your remote.
- Tap OK.
- Wait for the process to finish.
Note: Your TV will generate a different code every time you reset your TV.
