Ring App Not Working

The Ring security system changed how people could safeguard their homes.

For one, you can control every security device on the Ring app.

But, you can’t protect yourself…

If you can’t use the app in the first place.

So, for now, I’ll be the one to save you.

Continue reading to find out:

  • Must-know reasons why the Ring app isn’t working.
  • The secret setting that makes your Ring app stop running.
  • 9 quick and easy fixes to make sure your Ring app stays functioning.
  • And this is just the beginning…

Why is the Ring app not working?

The Ring app isn’t working due to poor Internet connection. Or, the Ring device might not be getting strong signals from the router. Moreover, an outdated Ring app or mobile device can also cause the problem. Otherwise, the Ring app is glitching.

Ring app not working: 9 fixes

Before you read the troubleshooting tips down below…

Aside from the Ring app, you must know that there are 3 devices involved in the Ring Security system:

First is your WiFi router. It allows your Ring device and mobile gadget to communicate through the Internet.

Second is the Ring device, such as:

  • Ring Video doorbells.
  • Ring Security cameras.

These are responsible for sending alerts or signals to the Ring app.

Lastly is your mobile gadget, which could either be a smartphone or a tablet.

Note: You’ll use this to access the Ring app.

Now that I briefed you on the 3 devices’ roles in the security system…

It’s time I tell you that at least 1 of them is causing your problem with the Ring app.

That’s why the fixes I’m about to explain are also related to these devices.

Now, let’s get started.

#1: Check your Internet connection

The Ring app won’t work if you have a poor Internet connection.

That’s why you should start by checking your Internet speed here. Now, clicking that link will take you to a network speed test website.

Then, all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. And take note of the following:

  • Upload speed.
  • Download speed.

Now, both of them must be strong enough to support the Ring security system.

Specifically, they need to be at least 2 Mbps for Ring devices to work best.

And if your Internet connection doesn’t meet that requirement…

Here are 3 things you can do to improve the Internet speed:

Tip #1: Restart your WiFi router

See, your router’s task is to send Internet signals to your mobile and Ring devices.

But sometimes, it doesn’t do a great job. Especially when you haven’t restarted it for a long time.

You see, experts recommend you reset a WiFi router once a month. Doing so helps prevent issues like this one from happening.

With that, all you have to do is follow these 5 simple steps:

  1. Press and hold the router’s power button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the socket.
  3. Wait for 1-3 minutes.
  4. Plug the cable back.
  5. Turn on your router.

Tip #2: Move the router to a better location

If restarting didn’t do the trick…

And your devices still aren’t receiving strong signals from the router…

Then the latter’s placement may not be optimized.

With that said, follow this guide to better position your WiFi router:

  1. Put it near the center of your home.
  2. Elevate your router using a shelf or a router mount
  3. Don’t place it near electronic devices.
  4. Don’t put the router near a wall.

Tip #3: Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

So you’ve already followed the previous tips. But you still have a poor Internet connection.

If so, your router or its location isn’t causing the problem.

Instead, this issue concerns your ISP because they aren’t providing a strong signal.

And so this time, they’re responsible for fixing your Internet speed.

Now, what I can do to help is give you access to the contact details of common ISPs here

So, here are:

Quick steps to restart your mobile device:

Phone or Tablet (Android):
  1. Locate the Power button (either on the top or the right).
  2. Press and Hold the latter for 7-10 seconds.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds.
  4. Long press the power button until the Android device turns on.
iPhone or iPad:
  1. Hold both the Power and Volume up keys for 3 seconds.
  2. Slide the power button to the right.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds.
  4. Long press the power button until the iOS device turns on.

Now, try opening the Ring app and check if this step resolved the issue.

“The app still doesn’t work.”

Don’t worry. Proceed to the next step.

#3: Update your Ring app to the latest version

I’ve mentioned that at least 1 of the 3 devices is causing your Ring app issue.

But, you should still check if your Ring app isn’t outdated in the first place.

And if so, update it to the latest version to see if that solves the problem.

#5: Clear Ring app cache

A cache is a data type stored on your mobile device.

And it lets you access your apps much faster.

How?

It’s like your own memory.

For instance, you’ll arrive quicker at your destination once you’re more familiar with it.

That said, here’s the thing:

Caches don’t always work for the better.

In fact, they cause apps to malfunction when they get corrupted. Or when they overload your mobile device.

That’s why removing your Ring app cache could work wonders for you.

“How do I do that?”

Follow these easy steps to clear your Ring app cache:

Phone or Tablet (Android):
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Scroll down the Apps panel.

  2. Head to General.
  3. Open iPhone (or iPad) storage.
  4. Locate the Ring app.

#7: Disable VPN

VPN is a great way to maintain anonymity on the Internet.

So, with that in mind, it’s a great way to safeguard yourself from cyberattacks.

But here’s the thing:

Using a VPN won’t protect you in “real life.” For one, it’ll make your Ring app stop working.

With that said, you should turn off your mobile phone’s VPN as much as possible.

But, if using the VPN is that important to you…

I recommend you get a spare phone for which you won’t use a VPN.

Why?

So it acts as the control center of your Ring security system instead.

In that way, you can use a VPN on your main device. While making sure your Ring devices work.

Now, speaking of VPN…

You see, the device uploads security updates to your phone via the Ring app.

However, there’s a catch:

With that said, try to access the latter if it works now.

If so, follow the steps below to…

Reconnect your Ring device (doorbell or camera) to the network:

  1. Press the 3 lines on the top left corner,
