Does Samsung SmartThings support IFTTT?
Samsung SmartThings support IFTTT, and it works with IFTTT by integrating some of its legacy smart devices. Users can create several IFTTT applets and use their SmartThings devices as “triggers” to perform a series of actions. Making automating smart devices at home easier and more convenient.
How does SmartThings integrate with IFTTT? 6 ways
#1: By switching on/off smart lights and appliances
One of the most basic things you can do with IFTTT is to automate your smart lights and appliances.
With IFTTT, you can use the switching on and off of your light or appliance as a “trigger.”
Once you’ve switched on/off your device, other devices will take it as a sign or “trigger” to perform a specific action.
You can automate Spotify to play “sleeping music” once you’ve turned off the lights in your bedroom.
You can also automate your smart blinds to close down once you’ve opened your TV at 6 PM.
The possibilities are endless!
Similarly, you can set the turning on and off of your lights and appliances as an “action.”
Let’s say, you want to have your coffee ready once you’ve woken up.
You can automate your alarm as the “trigger” and the turning on of the coffee maker as the “action.”
Once your alarm rings, your coffeemaker will automatically turn on.
Key advantages of creating this automation:
- Allows you to focus on important matters.
- Helps ensure that you don’t leave your appliances on.
- Makes automating of several devices at once possible.

You can also integrate your smart door locks with IFTTT.
And you can set it as a “trigger” to turn on or off your appliances.
If you’re running late in the morning, you can just close your smart door lock and trust IFTTT to work its magic.
With IFTTT, you can automate your lights and appliances to turn off once your smart door has been locked.
And once you’ve returned home, you can automate the same devices to turn on once you’ve unlocked your smart door.
Imagine coming home all tired and having a cozy atmosphere that welcomes you.
Wouldn’t that make you come home earlier?
Key advantages of creating this automation:
- Helps prepare your home before you arrive.
- Helps ensure that appliances are turned off when you leave.
- Decreases possibilities of fire accidents due to electrical errors.
#3: By using a smart tag or tracker
Are you familiar with Samsung Galaxy SmartTag?
It’s a tracker device that lets you find lost gadgets or pets easily.
Sounds interesting, right?
But there is one more thing that you can use it for.
With IFTTT, you can also use a SmartTag as a “trigger.”
Meaning, you can automate other smart devices when this tracker device is in the vicinity.
Perhaps you have a SmartTag attached to your car key, and you always carry it everywhere.
You can automate your smart lock and lights to open once you’ve arrived home carrying your SmartTag.
With IFTTT, you can trigger your smart devices without doing anything.
This automation is beneficial for busy household owners.
May it be a businessperson or a parent.
Key advantages of creating this automation:
- Ensures that everything is working and in order.
- Allows you to focus on important and urgent matters.
- Makes your everyday life convenient by preparing everything for you.
#4: By opening/closing doors and windows
Are you living alone?
Or do you often leave your home vacant?
If yes, then integrating SmartThings devices with IFTTT may be beneficial for you.
People who are living alone often install open/closed sensors on their doors and windows.
These sensors help them get alerted in case someone is trying to trespass and rob their homes.
But with IFTTT, you can use such devices better.
Aside from sending alerts, IFTTT can turn on other devices once this trigger happens.
Let’s say someone has tried to open your kitchen window at night.
Your smart lights and alert siren will open once the open/closed sensor has been activated.
In case the break-in happens when you’re away, you can receive alerts when you automate your phone with it.
Isn’t it a great addition to your home security and safety system?
Key advantages of creating this automation:
- Improves your home security and safety system.
- Helps keep your home safe and secure at all times.
- Send out alert notifications even when you’re away.
#5: By using any security sensors
Why don’t you up the game and use motion, presence, or vision sensors to secure your home?
With IFTTT, you can use these sensors to trigger your home security system.
You can automate them with your alert siren and security lights.
If you want, you can also automate your sensors to call the police hotline immediately.
This way, you can keep your home safe and secure.
Plus, you can perform immediate action even when you’re away from home.
You can also choose to automate it for non-security purposes.
Let’s say you’ve walked into a room.
You can automate your motion sensor to open the lights, air conditioner, thermostat, and TV all at once.
This would come super convenient when you’re running several errands at home.
Or if you have toddlers or elderly persons living with you.
Key advantages of creating this automation:
- Allows you to focus on important matters.
- Helps keep your home safe and secure anytime.
- Makes the everyday living of everyone at home convenient.

Making it convenient for homeowners who have kids or pets at home.

And you can also turn your appliances off using your phone.
