How to change WiFi on Canon Printer – 7 steps
There are different ways to change the WiFi on your Canon printer.
But as someone who believes simplicity is best…
I’m going to teach you the easiest way to do this process.
And that’s by changing your Canon printer’s WiFi using the Canon app.
That said, proceed with the 1st step, which is to…
#1: Download the Canon printing app on your mobile device
You can use both iOS and Android devices for this process.
So simply prepare the gadget you have in hand, then go ahead and…
Download the Canon app on your mobile device
For iOS users:
- Turn ON your iPhone or iPad.
- Head to the App Store.
- Tap the search icon at the bottom-right corner.
- Click the search bar at the top of your screen.
- Type “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY.”
- Select the official app from the results.
- Tap the GET button.
- Input your password if needed.
- Wait for the app to be downloaded.
Note: You may also click here to access the app’s download page directly.
For Android users:
- Turn ON your phone and tablet.
- Launch the Google PlayStore app.
- Tap the search bar.
- Type in “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY.”
- Tap the official app.
- Select Install.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Wait for the process to be completed.
Note: Exact steps may vary depending on your device’s model or brand. However, you may simply click here to download the app directly.
And once you have the app on your device, you should proceed to…
#2: Set your printer to its Easy wireless connect mode
Step 1: Turn ON your printer
Plug your device into its power source.
Then press and hold its power button until the ON lamp lights up.
Step 2: Press and hold the WiFi button on your device
This button doesn’t have the WiFi icon you’re familiar with.
Instead, it displays a small tower with 2 curved lines on each side.
That said, after locating this button…
Press and hold it until the LED light beside it flashes.
After that…
Step 3: Tap the Color button
Just click the Color button once and then…
Step 4: Tap the WiFi button on your printer
Once you do, the LED light beside it will start flashing.
And that’s an indication that your printer is now in its Connect mode.
#3: Connect your mobile device to your printer
Head to your phone’s Settings app. And go to its WiFi page.
Then, select the network with your printer’s name on it.
“Wait. Does my printer have its own WiFi?”
No, it doesn’t.
See, your printer will appear as a network, but it won’t actually have an Internet connection. Because this is simply how Canon products connect to mobile devices.
That said, once you select your printer’s network…
#4: Launch the Canon printing app
The first thing you’ll see is the Terms and Agreement page of the application.
So simply tap the Agree button at the lower-right corner of the page. And…
#5: Allow the app to access your location
If you see a window asking the app to access your device’s location…
Select Allow Once or Allow While Using App.
After doing so…
#6: Select Yes
You’ll see a window asking:
“Do you want to search for available printers?”
So simply tap the Yes option on the right.
After that, a new window will appear, so just select OK and wait for the app to detect your printer.
Now, most of the time, the Canon app will automatically connect to your printer at this point.
So if it does, simply proceed to the next step.
But if it doesn’t, or you see a “Printer could not be found” window, proceed with these…
Steps to manually let the Canon app detect your printer:
Step 1: Tap OK on the window that states your app couldn’t detect a printer.
Step 2: Click the Printer icon at the bottom of the app’s home page.
Step 3: Wait for the available printers to appear on your screen.
Step 4: If nothing appears, tap the “If printer cannot be found” button at the bottom.
Step 5: On the window that appears, select Settings.
Step 6: Enable the app to access your location manually.
Step 7: Wait for the “Wi-Fi setup preparations are complete” window to show up.
Step 8: Select OK.
#7: Connect your printer to the new WiFi
Now, your app will list all the available networks near you.
So simply…
- Find and select your own WiFi.
- Input your network’s password.
- Tap the OK option on your screen and let your app load.
- Click OK once more when the“Settings information has been sent” window appears.
- Select the name of your printer on the screen.
Just like that, your Canon printer is now connected to the new WiFi network.
Now, if you want to do this process without installing the Canon app on your phone…
Here’s another way to connect your printer to a new WiFi:
Why isn’t my Canon Printer connecting to my new WiFi?
Your Canon printer isn’t connecting to your new WiFi because you’re using the wrong password. Sometimes, this happens because your printer isn’t in the optimal range of your router. And in other cases, it’s because your Internet speed isn’t fast enough.
Fortunately, though, it’s easy to solve these problems.
That said, here are the…
5 effortless fixes to make your Canon printer connect to a new WiFi
#1: Ensure you’re using the correct password
I’ve tried connecting my Canon printer to a new network before. And I’ve failed more than 3 times.
At first, I thought it was because something was wrong with my printer.
But later on, I realized I was using my old WiFi password.
See, this fix might sound too simple, but really…
It’ll solve the problem for most people.
That’s because it’s easy to forget WiFi passwords. Moreover, you can also easily mistype them. Mainly because you can’t see your password as you type it in the Canon app.
That said, first, you should…
Make sure you’re trying to use the correct password:
Assuming your phone is currently connected to your WiFi network…
Head to the WiFi page of your mobile device’s Settings. And make your phone forget your current WiFi.
After doing so, try connecting it to the same network again. And that’s by using the password you’ve been typing on your Canon app.
Now, if you can’t connect your phone to the WiFi as well…
That means you’re using the wrong password.
So you should try to remember what the right one is. Or maybe ask other people in your household to tell you the updated password of your WiFi.
On the other hand, if your device reconnects to your WiFi with no problem…
Double-check the password you’re typing in your Canon app
When you connect your Canon printing application to a network…
You’ll see an eye icon below the space where you’re supposed to type in your password.
That said, tap this eye button to check if you’ve typed the password correctly.
And then try to connect your app to the WiFi again.
#2: Place your printer in an optimal range of your router
Your printer should be within 30 feet of your router.
But for best results, I recommend placing both within 15 feet of each other.
Because this way, your printing machine can easily detect your WiFi.
However, remember that your printer shouldn’t be within 5 feet of your router either.
Because this can also cause signal interferences between the 2.
That said, aim to have between 6-15 feet of distance between your printer and the router.
Then try to connect your Canon device to your WiFi again.

#3: Ensure that your Internet is fast enough
Canon printers can reject unstable or slow networks.
That’s why the next thing you should do is…
Check your Internet speed:
- Turn ON a mobile device or a PC.
- Open any browser.
- Type in www.speedtest.net.
- Tap the GO icon in the middle of your screen.
- Wait for the results to show up.
Are you getting 5 Mbps or more?
Then your Internet isn’t the problem. And you may skip to the next fix.
But if you’re getting a number lower than that, I recommend following these…
3 tips to improve your Internet connection:
Tip 1: Restart your router.
- Unplug it from the outlet.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Connect it to its power source again.
Tip 2: Disconnect other devices from your WiFi.
The more devices you connect to your network…
The likelier it is to slow down.
So you should disconnect other gadgets from your WiFi.
And try reconnecting your printer to the network after doing so.
Tip 3: Contact your Internet service provider.
Notify them that you’re getting a network speed lower than 5 Mbps.
And ask if they can do something from their end to fix this.
After following these tips, try changing the WiFi on your Canon printer again.

#4: Restart your printer
- Turn it OFF.
- Unplug it from its power source.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back into the wall outlet again.
- Turn your printer ON.
Now, check if you can connect it to your new WiFi once more.
If you still can’t, I highly recommend that you…
