How to reset your ADT doorbell camera
If your other gadgets can connect to the WiFi just fine. And you’re still seeing a red blinking light on your ADT doorbell camera…
Then you might consider resetting it.
“How do I do that?”
It’s simple. You only need to press the reset button for about 15 seconds.
You can find that button at the back of your ADT doorbell camera. It’s on the top-left portion. Besides the power switch.
Of course, if you hardwired your doorbell camera, that’ll be a little inconvenient. You’re going to have to manually disconnect it from the wirings. Best to ask for help from a technician.
Warning: Resetting your ADT doorbell camera will delete your information. You’re going to have to re-enroll it again into the ADT Pulse network.
How to use a WiFi Extender
One common reason why some ADT doorbell camera owners experience network failure…
Their modem and router are simply too far from the doorbell camera.
And depending on your home set-up. It may not be convenient to move your modem and router closer.
That’s why one good solution is to simply use a WiFi Extender.
“WiFi extender? What’s that?”
It’s a device that boosts your WiFi. It’s especially useful if there are dead spots in your home.
Dead spots are areas where you’ll struggle to connect to the internet. Mainly because of its distance from the router. But also because of possible obstructions blocking the signal.
So if your ADT doorbell camera’s having network failure…
Considering using a WiFi extender.
Ideally, place it in between your router and your doorbell camera to maximize the extender’s use.
Once your doorbell camera has a steady connection, the red light should go away.
WiFi extenders are available online. How to set it up would depend on the manufacturer. But it shouldn’t be difficult.

#2: Low battery
Another type of red light blinking pattern you’ll see is the intermittent blink.
This is unlike the steady blink. Which happens every second.
The intermittent pattern has about a 5-second interval between blinks.
This is usually power-related.
Are you using the battery-powered version of the ADT doorbell camera?
If so. And you see this red blinking pattern. It’s time to charge it.
How to fix it:
Charging your ADT doorbell camera is a pretty straightforward process.
But first. You’ll need to unmount it first from its location.
To do that:
- Look for the mounting bracket’s tab. It should be at the bottom. When you see it, press it.
- Remove the doorbell camera by sliding it upward.
Now that you’ve detached the doorbell camera, you may go ahead and charge it. You’ll need a micro-USB charger for this.
Here’s how you do it:
- Connect one end of the micro-USB to your doorbell camera’s charging port.
- Plug the other end into any USB power source. It can be your laptop.
“How long would I need to charge it?”
Around 6-8 hours to achieve a full charge.
The great thing about your ADT doorbell camera’s batteries?
They last up to 3 months before needing to recharge again.
#3: AC wire problems
If you opted to hardwire your ADT doorbell camera.
And you’re seeing an intermittent red blinking light…
It means it’s not getting power from your AC wire.
There are 2 possible reasons for this.
First: The AC wires have been disconnected from your doorbell camera.
This may be because it wasn’t properly connected during the initial setup.
Second: The AC wire where you connected the doorbell camera is defective.
In this case, it might have to be replaced.
How to fix it:
Either of the reasons we just mentioned would require assistance from a technician.
The ADT doorbell camera’s user manual did provide a step-by-step guide on how to hardwire.
But it’s understandable if you or someone may not have done it properly. Especially if you’re not a trained professional.
And regarding your home’s AC wiring. The one connected to your doorbell camera. If it’s faulty, a technician may need to look into it, anyway.
