Why is my Bluetooth pairing not working on the Vizio soundbar?

Vizio soundbar Bluetooth pairing not working: 9 steps to fix it
#1: Restart your soundbar
Before I proceed to the very technical ways to fix this issue…
Here’s the first thing that you should try.
That’s because, sometimes, you can solve this with an easy fix…
Like restarting your soundbar from its power button.
You see, devices like your Vizio soundbar might experience some minor glitches. From time to time.
How to fix
- Press that power button to turn it off.
- Then, press it again, to turn it on.
Majority of the time, such a trick does the job.
What if it doesn’t?
Then, proceed to try out the following ways I’ll provide.
Up next is…
#2: Unplug from power source
If turning it off and on using the power button didn’t work…
Hold up. There’s another way to fight that minor glitch.
This time, you can unplug the soundbar from its power source.
Now, wait a few minutes before plugging it back again.
Then, proceed to put it on pairing mode again. See if that fixed the issue.
Still not working?
Okay, keep it powered on this time. And…
#3: Check if it’s already paired
Your Vizio soundbar is already paired.
“Huh? Then why can’t I play something?”
Unfortunately, not with your device…
Something else is already paired with your Vizio soundbar instead.
A lot of users experience this.
That’s because the soundbar automatically connects to the last device it’s paired with..
And so, the soundbar won’t be available for pairing anymore.
How to fix
Check if this is the case.
- Use the device that you’re connecting to the soundbar. It can be your smartphone, tablet, TV, or computer.
- Open its Bluetooth settings, and see if your soundbar is available for pairing.
You’d know it’s not if it doesn’t appear on your device.
- With that, you should reset your Vizio soundbar. You can use steps #1 and #2 above as a way to do so.
- Also, ask the device user to disconnect from your soundbar.
This is doable because the person connected to it is nearby. After all, your Vizio soundbar won’t connect with a faraway device (but more on that later).
#4: Pairing limit
What if your Vizio soundbar appears to be available for pairing?
But when you click it on your device, it won’t pair at all…
“Right? What’s up with that?”
Well, you know how we all have our limits?
Your device might have reached its limit when it comes to pairing.
Note: You can only pair it with a number of other devices. It’ll depend on your device’s Bluetooth version.
For those with Bluetooth 4.0, it can be 3 up to 5 devices. For Bluetooth 5.0 users, their limit is 7 devices.
How to fix
- Go to your device’s Bluetooth settings.
- Then, ‘Forget’ a few other devices to make room for your soundbar.
#5: Turn on Vizio sound bar’s pairing mode
Now, let’s look at your soundbar…
Sometimes, you can’t pair with it because you don’t have the Bluetooth mode set.
So, remember to turn on its Bluetooth pairing mode. (Proceed to ‘How do I put my Vizio soundbar in pairing mode?’)

#6: Re-pair
I’m not talking about repair where you get your soundbar checked and fixed.
For this one, I mean to re-pair the device to your soundbar.
This fix applies to the following scenario:
Your device is already paired with your soundbar.
You’d think that, finally, it’s connected…
But no, nothing’s happening…
With that, disconnect your device again. Then, try to pair it with your soundbar for the nth time.

#7: Lose the connection
Resort to this fix if #6 didn’t do the trick…
Even after unpairing and re-pairing, nothing’s going on.
If this is the case, then it’s time to totally lose the connection.
What I mean by that is to ‘Forget’ the soundbar on your device.
How to fix this issue
Step 1: Go to your device’s Bluetooth settings.
There, you’d see the list of other devices it’s paired with.
Step 2: Click on the Vizio sound bar’s name and proceed to ‘Forget’ it.
Note: You can even disable Bluetooth on your device first. Do so by turning it off. But turn it on again.
Step 3: Scan for devices available for pairing, and click on the sound bar’s name to re-pair.
#8: Update your soundbar
Your soundbar could be acting up because its firmware needs to be updated.
This is a common issue that many users complain about.
Their frustration is understandable…
When the soundbar needs a firmware update, it suddenly stops working with other devices.
How to fix this issue
Step 1: Check to see if there’s a firmware update available.
Just go to www.VIZIO.com and click ‘Support’ on the upper part of the page.
Step 2: Enter your sound bar’s model on the search bar.
If there’s an update, it’ll appear in the suggestions.
Step 3: Click the appropriate article on the search result.
Doing so will lead you to an article that gives you 2 options:
- Downloading the firmware update.
- Accessing the instructions for the firmware update.
Step 4: Download the firmware update.
Step 5: Save the downloaded update to a USB drive.
Step 6: Turn your Sound bar on.
Step 7: Disconnect your sound bar’s power cord.
Step 8: Connect the USB drive where you saved the update.
Step 9: Reconnect the power cord.
After that, 2 LED lights should illuminate in front of your soundbar.
Then, it should be followed by the illumination of the 1st, 3rd, and 4th LED light. This means that the update is in progress.
Step 10: Safely remove the USB drive when all the LED lights have turned off.
That means that the update is complete.
Warning: Never remove the USB drive while there are LED lights on.

#9: Consider the distance
In this case, the issue involves range.
You see, soundbar can only pair with devices nearby.
According to the manual, the Bluetooth range of a soundbar can be up to 30 feet…
So, any device beyond that point won’t be read by the soundbar. And that’s also applicable to your device as well.
With that, make sure both of your gadgets are near each other.

To put your Vizio soundbar in pairing mode, turn on its Bluetooth mode first.
Now, there are 2 ways to do to enable that mode:
From your soundbar
Simply press and hold the Bluetooth button on your soundbar. You can find it on the side.
Using the remote
You can also click on the Bluetooth button on the remote.
However, there are two kinds of remote available…
The first one is without an LED screen. There, you can easily locate the button I’m talking about.
For the one with an LED screen, you’d have to click a few more buttons.
First is the ‘Menu’ button, then select ‘BT Pairing’ mode.
Pairing the soundbar to your device
You can choose between using the soundbar directly or the remote.
Regardless, the soundbar should act in one way:
Take a look at the lower part of the front of your soundbar…
Once it’s ready for pairing, LED lights should be flashing back and forth. This means that the soundbar is already discoverable.
With that, proceed to your device’s Bluetooth setting.
Then, the soundbar should be listed under devices ready for pairing. If you spot it on that list, just click it…
And that’s it.
