Can you connect 2 Harman Kardon speakers together?

You can connect 2 Harman Kardon speakers together. The first method is via Bluetooth. Click the “Bluetooth” button on one of the devices. Wait for the light to blink fast. Then do the same on the other speaker. Aside from this, you can also pair many speakers using the Harman Kardon controller app.

3 ways to pair 2 Harman Kardon speakers together

#1: Link your speakers via Bluetooth

Bluetooth lets devices connect with each other. Whether it’s for sending files or playing music.

But did you know that you can also pair 2 Harman Kardon speakers through it?

Yup.

The Bluetooth option isn’t only limited to a speaker and another device (e.g., phone, tablet). As you could also link 2 Harman Kardon speakers to play the same music simultaneously.

“Can I pair 2 different Harman Kardon speakers?”

Most users reported that they paired a newer model to an older one.

Say, a Harman Kardon Onyx 6 to an Onyx 5. As well as an Omni 20s to an Omni 10s.

So it’s safe to say that it’ll work as long as they’re in the same series.

But mind you. This might only apply to this Bluetooth trick.

So…

How do you connect 2 Harman Kardon speakers?

Step 1: Turn on both of your speakers first.

Step 2: Connect your phone (or any music source) to any of the 2 speakers.

But if you have 2 different models. Say an Onyx 5 and an Onyx 6. Pair your device with your Onyx 5 first.

You only need to pair your speaker once with every tablet or phone. So if you have already done this before, skip to step #3.

However, if you still haven’t paired these devices before…

Do the following steps:

  1. Turn on your Harman Kardon speaker first by clicking the middle button.

Note: You’ll see that the LED light under it will blink.

  • If it blinks rapidly: It’s already in Bluetooth pairing mode.
  • If it blinks slowly: It’s not yet ready to pair so do the next step.

If the LED light doesn’t blink fast…

  1. Click and hold the “Bluetooth” icon. Do this until the light flashes rapidly.

Note: Once it does, it means that the speaker is now visible to other devices. So…

  1. Get your phone and go to the “Bluetooth” settings.
  2. Touch the toggle switch to turn your Bluetooth on.
  3. Wait until your phone detects your Harman Kardon speaker.
  4. If it appears, select its name to start pairing.
  5. Wait for a few seconds.
  6. Then, play any song to check whether your phone and speaker are connected.

Step 3: Press and hold the “Bluetooth” button of the connected speaker once again.

Hold it until you hear it beep. When it does, it means that it’s now entering pairing mode.

Next…

Step 4: Do the same thing on the other Harman Kardon speaker.

Again, release the button once you hear a beeping sound.

Step 5: Wait until you hear the 2 speakers let out a chime.

This means that both your devices are now pairing with each other. But take note that they’ll enter “Mono Mode” first.

“What is it?”

Speakers can produce 2 different types of sound – mono and stereo.

The latter uses 2 audio channels. This is why you can notice a perception of width.

Say, you could tell whether a sound comes from the left or right direction. Plus, you can also hear how far or near it is to the source.

Whereas the former only plays with 1 audio channel. So you won’t observe all of the things I said above.

And between the two, the better option is the stereo.

So you need to put both of your Harman Kardon speakers in “Stereo Mode” first.

How?

Step 6: Play any music once the pairing is done.

Step 7: Click the “Play” button on the speaker you first connected.

Hold it until the LED light blinks on your 2 speakers.

By doing this, one of your devices will be in “Stereo Mode.” While the other one would be in “Mono Mode.”

And then…

Step 8: Press “Pause” to stop the song for around 5 seconds.

Listen closely to one of your speakers.

You’ll hear a soft white noise. Now, wait until this ends – which may only take a few seconds.

Step 9: Play the music again.

This time, both your Harman Kardon speakers should be in “Stereo Mode.”

Pair Speakers Via Harman Kardon Controller App

#2: Pair them via Harman Kardon Controller app

Like other brands, Harman Kardon also made a mobile app that lets you control your devices.

This is free. And it’s available on both Google Play Store and App Store.

What to do?

Step 1: Download the Harman Kardon Controller app first.

Click the links I provided above. Then once the installation is done…

Step 2: Launch the app.

Step 3: Allow all permissions that’ll show on your screen.

Don’t forget to grant the app access to your Bluetooth. So that you’ll be able to connect with and control your speakers wirelessly.

Step 4: Connect all your speakers to your phone (if you haven’t done this yet.)

Step 5: Click the “Link” icon at the bottom right of the app’s sidebar.

Step 6: Select which speakers or rooms you want to pair together.

Step 7: Tap the “Link” button again.

Step 8: Play the music you want.

Then it’ll be sent to all the speakers you selected.

Note: If you want to unlink a certain speaker, click the “Link” icon. Select the speaker or room you want to remove. Then tap the “Link” button once again.

What can you do using the Harman Kardon Controller app?

By using this, you can play the same music on all your Harman Kardon speakers.

And mind you, you’ll still be able to do this even if your devices are located in different rooms.

But of course, as long as the speakers are still within the Bluetooth range. Which is usually 30 ft (10 m).

Aside from music streaming, you can also manage your playlists in the app. Plus, you could choose which speakers to use.

However, there might be some limitations.

This is because the app is said to be only compatible with the following models:

  • Aura.
  • Onyx.
  • SB26.
  • BDS 275.
  • BDS 575.
  • BDS 277.
  • BDS 577.
  • BDS 280.
  • BDS 580.
  • BDS x35.
  • Sabre SB35.
  • AVR 170/AVR 1700.
  • AVR 270/AVR 2700.
  • AVR 370/AVR 3700.
  • AVR 151/AVR 1510.
  • AVR 161/AVR 1610.
  • AVR 171/AVR 1710.
  • AVRs 151S/161S/171S/1510S/1610S/1710S.

#3: Put your speakers in “Party Mode”

This method is pretty similar to the 2nd tip.

But here, you wouldn’t be able to select certain speakers. As this mode will automatically pair all your Harman Kardon speakers.

So as its name implies, this feature will be helpful if you have a party or an event.

It’ll save you a lot of time turning every speaker on and off. As you’ll be operating all of them in only a few clicks.

So, how can you enable “Party Mode”?

Based on the Harman Kardon manual, you can also do this on the app.

If you have already downloaded it, proceed to the following steps:

Step 1: Play a song or playlist to one speaker first.

It doesn’t matter which one you’ll use. So pick whichever is the closest or most convenient for you.

Next…

Step 2: Click the “Party Mode” icon at the bottom sidebar.

It’s usually located on the right part of your screen.

And that’s it.

Once the mode is activated, you’ll hear the music in all your rooms or speakers.

Hence, the name – “Party Mode.”

#BONUS: Use the “Bluetooth/Aux Restreaming” feature

“What does this do?”

The name may look complicated. But this only means that you’ll be able to send audio signals from one of your speakers to up to 3 more.

This is possible through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

What to do?

  1. Play music to one of your speakers using the controller app.
  2. Go to the other speaker/s that you want to use simultaneously.
  3. Press the “Link” button of each device.

Repeat the steps as much as you want to link more speakers.

But remember, you can only pair up to 4 speakers at the same time. And they should all be in the same network to play properly.

People also ask:

How many Harman Kardon speakers can I pair?

You can pair up to 2 Harman Kardon speakers via Bluetooth. But if you have a controller app on your phone, you can play music on all of your speakers at the same time.

Pairing 2 speakers via Bluetooth is quite easy. And if you want to know more about it, check out the 1st tip above.

But if you’d like to play songs with more than 2 speakers, read tips #2 to #3. (As well as the last bonus trick!)

How to put Harman Kardon speakers in pairing mode?

To put Harman Kardon speakers in pairing mode, turn them on first. Then press the “Bluetooth” button of one speaker first. Hold it for about 3 seconds until the LED light blinks rapidly.

Sometimes, the light may also blink fast once you turn the speaker on.

If this is the case, your device is already in pairing mode. And you only need to connect your phone (or another device) to it.

Once done, play any song to test whether the pairing is successful or not.

And congrats! You can now play songs on your Harman Kardon wirelessly.
