Why won’t my TCL TV connect to WiFi?

Your TCL TV won’t connect to WiFi because you have a weak network connection. And that’s either due to poor Internet speed or router issues. Or, your TV software is outdated. Moreover, your TV might have hardware issues. Otherwise, your TV is glitching.

TCL TV won’t connect to Wifi: 13 fixes

#1: Restart TCL TV

In my life, I’ve had a fair share of dealing with technical issues on many devices.

And I find it amazing that I solved many of them with just a restart.

Yes, that worked a lot of times…

In fact, just enough times for my mom to praise me for it.

She started calling me a genius of some sort. Even what I did was very simple.

So, I’m saying you could also try to restart your TCL TV.

And see if it solves your issues with the WiFi connection.

With that said, here’s…

How to properly restart your TCL TV:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Go to Home > Settings > System > Power.
  3. Press System Restart
  4. Confirm by tapping OK.

Did that work out for you?

If it didn’t, don’t worry. It was at least worth a try.

Now, what you can try to do next is…

#2: Power cycle your TCL TV

Did you know?

Processes can get stuck inside your TV’s electrical system.

And when that happens, your TV starts acting up.

As a result, you experience problems like the one you’re having right now.

But here’s the thing:

A simple restart might not be enough to resolve that issue.

In fact, you need something better than that.

And that’s power cycling

What’s that?

It’s a process that’ll drain any electricity remaining on your TV’s system.

As a result, you’ll remove those hung-up processes and glitches.

And that can fix your problems with the WiFi.

The process seems complicated, but it’s really simple.

Just follow….

How to power cycle your TCL TV:

  1. Using your remote, turn the TV OFF.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the socket.
  3. Wait for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Plug the cable back and power your TV ON.

After that, you can try to connect your TV again to the WiFi.

“I still can’t connect to the WiFi.”

Okay. Don’t get worried just yet.

Now that you’ve restarted and power cycled your TV…

Then, it’s time to…

#3: Restart your WiFi router

Why?

Because among all your devices…

I’d bet that no one’s as overworked as your router.

It’s probably on 24/7.

It may not be a human needing 8 hours of sleep each day…

But, if it’s running basically for over long periods.

No wonder you’re having issues with WiFi connectivity.

That said, here’s…

How to reset your WiFi router:

  1. Press the power button to turn the router OFF.
  2. Wait for 1-3 minutes.
  3. Power router ON.
  4. Wait for 2 minutes before using the network.

After restarting both the TV and the WiFi router,

There’s a chance that your WiFi network issues are now resolved.

But if those weren’t enough…

Don’t lose hope just yet.

Because there’s still something that we can do.

#4: Reset the WiFi network

If the TV and the router aren’t the problems…

Then their connection may be the one that’s compromised.

And in that case, you’d have trouble connecting to the WiFi and the Internet.

So that’s why you need to reset the WiFi network.

Note: This process is split into two steps: “Forgetting the network” and “Adding a new network.”

Now that’s on the table, here’s…

How to forget your WiFi network:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Go to Home > Settings > Advanced System Settings.
  3. Select Network Connection Reset.
  4. Press Reset Connection.

And…

How to Add a new WiFi network:

  1. On your remote, press the Home button.
  2. Go to Home > Settings > Network.
  3. Select Wireless
  4. Choose Set up a new wireless connection
  5. Select the WiFi network you want to connect to.
  6. Press OK and enter the password.

#5: Verify strength of network connection

Verify Strength Of Network Connection

Already connected to a WiFi network?

But still can’t access the Internet?

Then what you need to do right now is:

To verify your network’s signal strength

What’s that?

It measures how well your TV’s receiving WiFi signals from your router.

And keep in mind that it’s totally different from your Internet download speed

What’s the difference?

The Internet download speed’s a measure of your actual connection.

You know, like 25 Mbps.

The bottom line is:

You can have Excellent signal strength but a Poor Internet connection. And vice versa.

That’s why knowing the details are very important.

In that way, you could take appropriate action based on the results.

And so, here’s…

How to verify the strength of network connection on your TCL TV:

  1. Go to Settings > Network
  2. Select Signal Strength
  3. Take note of the Signal Strength’s description
  4. Find the section Check your Internet speed.
  5. Take note of the Internet download speed

Now…

If your Internet download speed is Poor:

Then you can’t connect to the WiFi because the connection’s poor.

And to fix that, you need to call your ISP right away.

However…

If your signal strength is Poor:

Then you need to focus on improving it.

And to help you do that, keep reading the following tips…

#6: Ensure proper placement of TCL TV

You see…

The positioning of your TCL TV can make or break the WiFi connection.

And that’s because certain positions are optimized to receive signals better.

So if you don’t properly place your TV in a certain way…

You’re bound to have WiFi connectivity issues.

What’s the proper placement for your TV?

Here are some reminders for positioning your TCL TV:

  • Don’t put your TV under direct sunlight.
  • Move your TV closer to your WiFi router.
  • Don’t place your TV near other appliances.
  • Rotate the TV in the direction of your WiFi router.

Still not enough to fix the issue?

I understand.

And that’s why you could also…

#7: Move your router to another location

Aside from your TV’s positioning…

Your router’s location can also impact your WiFi’s signal strength.

And if it’s not on a great spot, you’ll experience problems with the WiFi connection.

So that’s why you need to move your router to another place.

Or just make sure that it’s in the correct place.

And to help you do that…

Here are tips for your router’s location:

  • Keep the router off the ground.
  • Place the router in an open area.
  • Away from walls and other electronic devices.
  • Put your router as close to your home’s center.

#8: Get a WiFi extender

Still having trouble with the strength of your WiFi signal?

Even after changing the TV’s and router’s placement?

You must be feeling worried right now.

And I understand.

After all, doing those fixes require physical labor. And that can get into your nerves.

But hey, there’s still something you can do.

And that’s getting a WiFi extender.

Why?

As you see from its name…

The device extends WiFi signals.

And that results in broader WiFi network coverage.

So, your TV will get a better and more robust connection.

That said, having an extender can solve the problem with your WiFI.

Looking for one? Then…

Here are WiFi extenders that I highly recommend:

“I’m still having problems with WiFi.”

I see. But don’t you worry.

The following fix could help you…

#9: Change your router’s wireless channel

Did you know routers send out WiFi signals on different channels?

And that’s supposedly for efficient data transfer.

But here’s the thing:

Some channels get congested because of interference

What’s that?

It’s basically many WiFi signals that bump into each other.

And that causes signals to become weaker.

The good news is:

You can change your WiFi channel to avoid interference.

Specifically, you can change it to 1, 6, or 11.

And that’s because they’re the least congested channels.

“How to change the wireless channel?”

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Type your router’s IP address on the search bar.
  3. Enter password.
  4. Press Wireless Settings
  5. Choose Channels.
  6. Select the WiFi channel 1, 6, or 11.
  7. Confirm by tapping Save or Apply.

#10: Install a wired connection

Working with your router didn’t solve the issue?

Then you should consider switching to a wired connection from your TV to your router.

In that way, your TV won’t rely on WiFi signals to connect to the network.

And as a result, you can solve your issues with the Internet.

Plus, you’ll also get the benefits of having a wired connection, such as:

  • Fewer lag issues.
  • Faster Internet speed.
  • Uninterrupted connection.

And the good thing is:

You’ll get the whole wired connection experience with just an ethernet cable.

#11: Update TV software

Even switching to a wired connection didn’t resolve the problem?

I know. It’s frustrating.

But I hope you feel better when I tell you what could be the culprit for this issue.

And that’s outdated software.

That’s because if your TV’s software isn’t up-to-date…

Your TV can malfunction and glitch from time to time. And cause unexpected issues like this one.

So that’s why it’s necessary to update your TV to have a smooth and problem-free TV experience.

Don’t know how to do it?

It’s simple. Just follow the steps…

How to update TCL TV’s software:

  1. Go to Home > Settings
  2. Choose System
  3. Press System Update.
  4. Tap Check Now
  5. Select Update

“There’s no update available.”

Then your TV is already up-to-date. And that’s a good thing.

But it only means that your WiFi issue isn’t caused by outdated software.

If that’s the case, then you can resort to…

#12: Factory reset TCL TV

You see…

There are times when every fix doesn’t seem to work.

And it’s easy to feel helpless.

That’s perfectly normal.

But let me tell you:

There’s still a hero that can save your day.

It’s not Batman or Superman. But it’s reliable enough to fix your TV’s WiFi problem.

And that’s the factory reset

What’s that?

It’s a process where your TV goes back to its original settings.

And that’s only possible by getting rid of all the data stored inside your TV.

“How does it solve the problem?”

You see, your WiFi issue could’ve been caused by corrupted files.

So by deleting all the data, you could also fix the issue.

“How to factory reset TCL TV?”

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Go to System > Advanced System Settings
  3. Press Factory Reset.
  4. Select Factory Reset Everything
  5. Wait for the process to finish.
  6. Follow on-screen instructions to set up TV.

#13: Contact TCL Support

Didn’t have any luck on the previous fixes?

Then you’re not dealing with any system issues.

Instead, you have a hardware issue with your TCL TV.

And with that said, it’s best to contact TCL Support.

That’s because there’s not much you can do to fix the problem.

It’s best to hand the situation to the TV manufacturers. Since they’ll know to proceed with the troubleshooting process.

That said, you can…
