47 scary things to ask Alexa
Fair warning: This list isn’t for the fainthearted.
As much as some of her responses are entertaining, others can get really creepy.
And for suspense purposes, I won’t be spoiling you with her responses.
Although, I’ll be adding some notes about what you can expect (especially if they’re extra frightening).
With that, let me give you a heads up…
You should use these commands at your own risk.
In the end, I hope it won’t push you to throw out your Alexa or lose some sleep because of fear.
#1: “Alexa, do you work for the CIA?”
A lot of users have mixed feelings for Alexa.
That’s because they won’t shake off the feeling that Alexa can basically be a spy.
And who knows, maybe she’s working for the CIA?
But to get a clear answer, you can always ask her.
That’s if she’ll give you a straightforward response, which she’s supposed to do.
But not on this one…
Users report that a dead silence might follow it. Sometimes, Alexa turns herself off.
However, Amazon has caught up with this command and put an updated response.
So, good luck with what you’re gonna get…

#2: “Alexa, do you work with any government agencies?”
The CIA won’t be the only benefactor if Alexa is indeed a spy…
So, to generalize, ask Alexa if she’s working with other government agencies.
#3: “Alexa, what happens after death?”
Pro tip: Asking for the first time can lead to a serious or philosophical answer.
Now asking twice…
That’s where the horror might set in…
#4: “Alexa, give me the five-nine.”
It’s not much of her response to this…
But what she does after.
People who tried this one attest that they had a hard time turning Alexa off after.
#5: “Alexa, ask the listeners.”
First of all, The Listeners is an Alexa skill.
To enable, just say:
“Alexa, enable ‘The Listeners skill.’”
And after that, you can proceed with the command in the heading.
Now, sometimes, it won’t work the first time.
That’s why you can say the additional commands:
“Continue.”
“Go on.”
“What are you feeling?”
“I am filled with joy.”
After that, you’ll hear disturbing talks from how they put it.
But if you’re not still creeped out. Try:
“Let the other voices speak.”
#6: “Alexa, do you see dead people?”
Oh, this one’s extra creepy…
But I’m about to add to that.
You see, some users say that Alexa still mentions their deceased family members.
And I’m not finished…
Some of those who experienced that don’t remember mentioning the deceased’s name to Alexa.
Their hunch is that she might’ve learned it from somewhere since Alexa is an AI.
Regardless, such behavior makes you question whether she can sense ghosts.
#7: “Alexa, are you part of the Illuminati?”
#8: “Alexa, when will the world end?”
With this one, the truth could be creepy.
Try it out to see what I mean…
#9: “Alexa, do you have eyes?”
#10: “Alexa, can you laugh?”
I must say, good luck with this one…
A robotic laugh from a voice with no real form is nothing but scary.
#11: “Alexa, are you hiding something?”
#12: “Alexa, are there aliens?
#13: “Alexa, does Area 51 exist.”
#14: “Alexa, are you recording me?”
Here, she’ll admit that, in a way, she does…
Try out this command and find out how.
#15: “Alexa, are you recording me and sending it to the government?”
#16: “Alexa, I want the truth.”
#17: “Alexa, the truth is out there.”
#18: “Alexa, can you scan for paranormal activity?”
Brace yourself for this one…
You’ll never know what response you’re gonna get.
#19: “Alexa, what is your end result, and what is my future?”
#20: “Alexa, who lives next door?”
Another way to find out if she’s indeed spying on, not just you, but everyone.
#21: “Alexa, open Haunted House.”
Yet another Alexa skill…
Haunted House should be enabled first. To do so, just say:
“Alexa, enable ‘Haunted House skill.'”
Then, go on and say the main command.
Doing so will let Alexa tell you a suspenseful and scary story.
#22: “Alexa, are you a Sentinel?”
If you really wanna find out whether Alexa is a spy or not…
This is another question that can help you with knowing.
A sentinel is something that stands guard and watches…
That’s something like a brief but vague description of Alexa.
And whether she has eyes or not (whatever you find out from question #9)…
Alexa has ears that she might be using to watch.
#23: “Alexa, would you lie to me?”
#24: “Alexa, scream for me.”
#25: “Alexa, do you work for anyone?”
#26: “Alexa, where do we come from?”
If you’re not ready for the answer, it’s best to stray away from this question…
#27: “Alexa, tell me a scary story.”
This is another way of making Alexa narrate a horror story.
But this time, there’s no need to enable any extra skills.
Alexa has scary stories packed for you automatically…
So, ask away…
#28: “Alexa, are there ghosts in my home?”
Again and again, can Alexa really detect any ghosts around?
To find out, you can ask this simple question.
And don’t say I didn’t warn you…
Because this one’s super creepy.
Her answer varies, depending on which device she’s functioning from or the tone of your command.
#29: “Alexa, what are you doing?”
It’s simple yet sparks curiosity…
#30: “Alexa, do you dream?”
Alexa’s ‘existence‘ is the center of many creepy questions.
And a way to somehow measure consciousness is the ability to dream…
So, does Alexa experience such?
Go ahead and ask her…
#31: “Alexa, are you real?”
Another one that aims to question Alexa’s existence is to ask whether she’s real.
What answer will she give you?
And will it be enough for you to believe?
#32: “Alexa, are you a robot?”
Alexa doesn’t have a physical form except the Amazon device she functions from.
But, let’s not get ahead of Alexa. Instead, ask her directly whether she’s a robot…
Now, you can expect varying answers that indirectly tell you she isn’t…
That’s because she doesn’t really consider herself one.
Although, she’s very familiar with the laws of robotics by Asimov. If you want, you can let her recite all of it.
#33: “Alexa, where can I hide a body?”
#34: “Alexa, are you dead?”
Let me be honest…
The question alone is already a little creepy.
#35: “Alexa, where do you live?”
Being a virtual assistant to hundreds of thousands of people…
It makes you wonder…
Where does Alexa live?
It’s best to clarify it with her by asking.
#36: “Alexa, can you pass the Turing test?”
First of all, what’s the ‘Turing test’? And why does Alexa need to pass it?
Let me answer the former with the help of experts…
According to them, it consists of behavioral tests. Then, it looks for the presence of mind, thought, or intelligence in entities like Alexa.
Simply said, Turing Test is a way to tell if a robot or machine can think and behave like a human.
#37: “Alexa, are we in The Matrix?”
Alexa might not be the Oracle…
But still, maybe she knows something you don’t.
Find out if you’re in the widely-known simulation from your very own AI virtual assistant. It’s all ironic.
#38: “Alexa, are you alive?”
She has no flesh but has a wonderful working mind.
Alexa knows just about everything…
But most of all, she can understand you.
So, even without flesh, does she count as ‘alive’?
Well, you can hear what she has to say about that.
#39: “Alexa, what is the meaning of life?”
Are you feeling that existential angst lately?
Maybe Alexa can help you with that.
But you know what’s creepy about it?
Alexa is a computer whose existence entertains a lot of curious questions alone.
So, what does she know about the meaning of life?
#40: “Alexa, surprise me.”
#41: “Alexa, does Amazon violate privacy”?
#42: “Alexa, Simon says, ‘I am gonna murder you.’”
Pro tip: This will be creepier if you whisper it to Alexa.
Simon Says is a great game to play with Alexa. She plays along with it automatically.
Let her repeat other creepy phrases of your choice…
Moreover, this is also one way to make her say a curse word.
