Ring Dashboard Not Loading

The Ring dashboard is your virtual eye.

It’s where you see everything that your camera captures.

That’s why it can be distressing when it won’t even load.

Why is my Ring dashboard not working?

Your Ring dashboard’s not working due to network connection problems. You need stable internet for the app to work correctly. So you may reset your router to fix it. In addition, the issue might also be due to a glitch in the app. And it also won’t work properly if your phone’s OS is outdated.

Ring dashboard not loading: 9 fixes

#1: Check for network connection issues

The main reason why the Ring dashboard’s not loading is due to WiFi issues. And it’s also the most common cause why Ring camera footages aren’t available sometimes.

That said, you might be having a slower than usual download speed. Or your connection might be cutting out from time to time.

Furthermore, it could also be due to a glitch in your modem or router. And your internet service provider might also be going through some downtime.

To quickly verify if it’s a network connection issue…

Grab another device connected to the same WiFi network.

Then, launch a browser using that. And go to the Speed Test site.

From there, check your download speed.

Is it significantly lower than what you’re used to?

If so, then your WiFi’s really unstable.

So what you should do is restart your modem and router. Here’s how:

  1. Disconnect both devices from the outlet.
  2. Wait for about 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Reconnect both to their power source.

Afterward, wait until your phone with the Ring app reconnects to the WiFi. Then check if the Ring dashboard’s loading now.

#2: Disconnect your other devices from the WiFi

If your phone’s WiFi connection is still lagging even after restarting the router…

The next thing you can do’s to disconnect other devices from your home network.

You’ll also get slow WiFi when there are too many gadgets connected to your router.

Moreover, in theory, a home router can support over 200 devices. But the ideal number should be around 10 to 20 gadgets only.

So try to limit the number of devices using your home internet. Disconnect those that you aren’t actively using.

To help you recognize which gadgets are using your WiFi…

You may use an app called Fing. It’s available for Android and iOS devices.

Once you’ve downloaded that app, follow these steps to use it:

  1. Launch the Fing app on your phone.
  2. Click the Scan for devices button.
  3. Wait for the app to list all devices using your WiFi.

From there, identify the ones that don’t really need an internet connection at the moment. And disconnect them from the WiFi.

Then go back to your phone. And try to reopen the Ring app. See if your phone’s internet is already fast enough to load the dashboard page.

#3: Restart your phone’s WiFi connection

Another thing you can do to fix your phone’s internet is to reset its network settings.

Basically, you’ll need to have your phone forget your home network. So when you reconnect to the WiFi, you’ll have to reenter your password.

It’s yet another simple and effective fix to resolve a phone’s unstable internet connection.

How to reset the network settings of an Android device

  1. Launch the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Navigate to System and tap it.
  3. Look for Reset options and then tap it.
  4. Select Reset WiFi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  5. Select Reset settings.

How to reset the network settings of an iPhone device

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap the Transfer or Reset Device option.
  4. Select Reset.
  5. Select Reset Network Settings.

After that, don’t reconnect your device to WiFi just yet.

Instead, wait for about a minute or 2. This is to ensure that the network settings would completely reset.

Then reconnect to the WiFi. Ensure that the password you type in is correct.

After which, go back to the Ring app. And check if you can now see your camera feed on the dashboard.

#4: Close and relaunch the Ring app

If you’ve fixed your WiFi connection and the dashboard’s still not loading…

The issue might be with the app itself.

“What’s going on?”

It’s possibly glitching, which is pretty common for any software.

And the way to fix it is by simply closing the app.

On iOS devices, all you have to do’s swipe up from the bottom to the middle of the screen. And then swipe up again from the middle to the top.

On Android devices, tap the 3 vertical lines icon on the bottom left of the screen. Then swipe up the app to close it.

Now, wait for about a minute. And then relaunch the app on your device.

#5: Clear the Ring app’s cache

One common reason for an app glitch is corrupted caches.

But what exactly are those?

Well, cache refers to temporary data that an app saves to speed up its performance.

Examples of cache files include the images and designs of the app’s interface.

And with cache, your phone doesn’t have to keep reloading those files every time you open the app.

But on occasions, these files can get corrupted. And when that happens, the app won’t be able to load properly.

So clearing the Ring app’s cache is another way to get the dashboard to load.

However, there’s no way to do it on an iOS device. And that’s one of the reasons why some think Androids are better than iPhones.

Now, if you own an Android phone, just follow these steps to clear the app’s cache:

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Scroll down and select Storage.
  3. Tap the Other apps option.
  4. Select the Ring app from the list.
  5. Tap Clear cache.

Now, if you want to know more about cache and why you should clear it periodically…

#6: Restart your smartphone

It’s also possible that your phone is malfunctioning and not the Ring app itself.

As I’ve mentioned, it’s a common occurrence across all software.

And that certainly includes a phone’s operating system.

So just as you restarted the Ring app, you should also do the same to your phone.

How to restart an iPhone

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and the right side button.
  2. When a slider appears, move it to the right.
  3. Wait for your phone to turn off completely.
  4. Wait for about 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Press and hold the right side button to turn your phone back on.

How to restart an Android device

  1. Press and hold your phone’s power button.
  2. Wait for the Power Menu to appear.
  3. Let go of the power button.
  4. Tap Restart from the menu.

After your iPhone or Android device restarts, relaunch the Ring app.

For many, this simple process was what got the Ring dashboard to load eventually.

#7: Delete and reinstall the Ring app

If power cycling your phone didn’t do the trick…

Another fix you can attempt is to reset the app.

Now, there’s actually no option to do that automatically on iOS and Android devices.

That said, you’ll have to do it manually. Essentially, you’ll need to delete the Ring app. And then reinstall it.

“Wait, what will happen to the cameras connected to the app?”

Nothing will happen to them. It’s just the app that you’re deleting, not your account. You’ll just have to log back in after reinstalling.

How to uninstall and reinstall the Ring app on an iOS device

  1. Press and hold the Ring app from your phone’s home screen.
  2. Tap the Remove App option.
  3. Tap Delete App to confirm.
  4. Restart your phone to complete the deletion.
  5. After restarting, launch the App Store.
  6. Look for the Ring app.
  7. Click the Install button beside the app.

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon on the screen’s upper right side.
  3. Select Manage apps & devices.
  4. Select Manage.
  5. Find the Ring app from the list and tap Uninstall.
  6. Restart your phone.
  7. Open the Play Store app once again.
  8. Search for the Ring app.
  9. Tap the Install button.

#8: Install updates for the Ring app

A software bug can also prevent the Ring dashboard from loading properly.

And a possible reason for that is the app’s outdated.

So you should install updates for the app if there are available ones.

“How would I know that?”

The easiest way’s by going to the app store of your device. From there, just search for the Ring app. You’ll see an Update button if there’s something you need to install.

But to be more precise, let me give you the steps for iPhone and Android devices.

How to check for and install Ring app updates on iOS

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search for the Ring app.
  3. Look for the Update button on the app’s right side.
  4. If you find the button, click it to download the updates.

How to check for and install Ring app updates on Android

  1. Open the Play Store app.
  2. Select your profile icon.
  3. Select Manage apps & devices.
  4. Look for the Ring app.
  5. If there’s an Update button beside it, tap it.

#9: Update your phone’s software

Since you’ve just updated the Ring app, you might as well do it with your phone’s OS.

The reason is that it may also be outdated or infected with bugs. And that’s why the Ring’s app’s dashboard won’t load.

Unlike with an app, though, updating an operating system takes longer. It lasts anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the latest updates.

So ensure that your phone has enough charge before doing it. Better yet, just plug it into an outlet.
