Note: These steps are for Bluetooth headphones. If you’re using a wired 1, proceed to the section below titled, “Can you connect wired headphones to Toshiba TV?”
Step #1: Enable Bluetooth on your Toshiba TV
Connecting your headphones to your Toshiba TV is easy.
And you should start by enabling your TV’s Bluetooth. To do that, you simply must follow these steps:
- Press the Home button on your Toshiba TV remote.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Head to Sound.
- Select the Bluetooth option.
- Set Bluetooth to Enabled.
Fun fact: You can’t connect any other Bluetooth device to a Toshiba TV apart from audio devices.
Step #2: Put your headphones in Pairing Mode
Next, grab your headphones.
You should now put it in Pairing Mode. Doing so lets your Toshiba TV know that your headphones are ready to connect.
But here’s the thing:
There’s no universal way of putting a pair of headphones into Pairing Mode.
So, instead, consult the manual that came with your headphones. There should be detailed instructions on how to enable Pairing Mode there.

Can you connect wired headphones to Toshiba TV?
You can connect wired headphones to Toshiba TV. To do so, you must plug the end of your headset into the audio jack of your Toshiba.
The problem with this setup is…
Most headphones have short cables around 1 to 3 meters.
That’s why I advise you to buy an audio jack extender. This way, you can still watch shows on your Toshiba TV with headphones from the comfort of your couch.
Why are my headphones not connecting to Toshiba TV?
Your headphones aren’t connecting to Toshiba TV because it has outdated Bluetooth. The only Bluetooth devices that can connect to Toshiba should have these versions:
- 2.1.
- 4.0.
- 4.1.
- 4.5.
If you don’t have the following versions…
You can easily buy a Bluetooth transmitter for your headphones instead.
However, if you have the proper version of Bluetooth…
You can use any of these solutions to fix your connectivity issues:
#1: Disconnect other devices
Can’t connect your Toshiba TV to a pair of headphones?
It’s likely because there’s already a connected device to your TV.
But don’t fret.
You can easily disconnect other devices on your Toshiba TV. All you need to do is:
- Press the Home button on your Toshiba TV remote.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Head to Sound.
- Select the Bluetooth option.
- Tap Devices.
- Navigate and press the currently connected device.
- Choose either Disconnect or Remove.
Next, try to reconnect your headphones. With that, it should now be working.
#2: Move your device closer
Maybe your headphones and Toshiba don’t have any problems at all…
Instead, maybe they’re just too far from each other.
You see, most Bluetooth headphones use a 2.4 GHz frequency band. And this type of band only reaches up to 150 feet indoors and 300 feet outdoors.
Moreover, also consider possible interference between your TV and headphones. That can be caused by the following:
- Glass.
- Mirrors.
- Concrete.
- Any metallic materials.
- Water-filled containers.
Other signal-emitting objects are also known to interfere with Bluetooth signals. Some examples of this are:
- Radios.
- Microwaves.
- Wi-Fi routers.
- Walkie talkies.
If you see any of these near your TV, remove what you can.
#3: Update your Toshiba TV firmware
One more thing you can try is to update your Toshiba firmware. After all, outdated firmware can often lead to errors and glitches.
Why?
You see, firmware is often called the “software for your hardware.” This is where most TV processes take place, including your Bluetooth connection.
Furthermore, newer Bluetooth headphones can sometimes only connect to the latest firmware.
That’s why it’s important to update your firmware. Now that you know the why, here’s how you can do so:
- Press the Home button on your Toshiba TV remote.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Head to the System subsection.
- Scroll down and select Software Upgrade.
- Select Scan for Upgrade.
- If there’s 1 available, choose Yes to finalize your update.
#4: Use a streaming device
Now, if you can’t fix the issue…
You can still bypass it.
How?
By spending a little bit of cash.
Let me explain…
Your Toshiba TV runs on a smart platform that gives you access to all its features. This includes its Bluetooth.
So, if you can’t connect to Bluetooth, there must be something wrong with your platform. But what if you can install another smart platform on your TV?
Good news: That’s possible using a streaming device. And this is what I recommend that you buy:
Once you have 1, this is how you can connect your headphones to it:

- Put your headphones into Pairing Mode.
- Insert your Apple TV into the Toshiba’s HDMI port.
- Switch to your Apple TV input.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Under Remotes & Devices, tap Bluetooth.
- After the Apple TV finishes scanning, select your headphones from the list of devices.
For Roku Streaming Stick 4K+
- Put your headphones into Pairing Mode.
- Insert your Roku device into the TV’s HDMI port.
- Switch to your Roku input.
- Download the Roku app on your smartphone. (Available on Android and iOS.)
- Connect any pair of headphones to your smartphone.
- Launch the Roku app.
- Choose your Roku device from the list.
- Tap the Private Listening (which looks like headphones) icon on your Roku app.
For Chromecast with Google TV
- Put your headphones into Pairing Mode.
- Insert your Chromecast device into Toshiba’s HDMI port.
- Switch to your Chromecast input.
- Go to the Settings menu of your Chromecast.
- Head to Remote & Accessories.
- Tap Pair Remote or Accessory.
- Once your Chromecast recognizes the headphones, select them from the list of devices.
- Press Pair to finalize the connection.
#5: Buy a different pair of headphones
Lastly, if your issue is the headphones itself…
Why not just buy a new 1?
And, while you’re at it…
Ensure that your new headphones sound good and will last you a long time. For that, I recommend the following:
